Anywhere to duck hunt in the BR or surrounding area that doesn't require a boat?

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it more than you know.

No one is going to give you a public walk-in spot near BR to shoot ducks. Those kind of spots are fiercely guarded.
But you can certainly look at the WMAs around BR and find some likely spots via aerials. It'll be almost all woodies if it is a walk in spot but there's nothing wrong with that.

Go listen for shots and beat them there the next day.

In highschool and college we use to go sit creeks and some flooded timber in Sherburne and shoot a few woodies. Some of the best times I had with my buddies out there. Will require some scouting to find water I would imagine.

I’ll help. Maurepas swamp wma (the 1100 acre tract located in French Settlement) parking lot on power line off King George Bay Road. Walk SW and first water you encounter will be one mile bayou and past that is palmetto bayou. Just follow either side of either bayou until you find acorns floating and set up there well before LST. I recommend hip boots or waders so you can retrieve your kills, it’s not deep but over knee boots in places. I’ve never been able to get 3 woodies in a morning but have taken 2 numerous mornings. Also recommend an open choke because shots will be close. It’s only 30 minutes from Baton Rouge and we’ll cross paths there eventually. Good luck.

Several walk in areas on public land in the basin. Do your research and it won’t be hard to find.

You can shoot them off the levee on river road. Drive down a little outside of town and should get into them.

There’s no way you’re being serious right? Sounds like a one way ticket to Guantanamo Bay.

We used to shoot them right across levee from Vet school in HS. We got to know the deputies very well. We just relocated down around where the casino is now. This was in the 80s, gunfire might not get any attention in that area now.

The Farm…
Ramah exit off I 10 west.
2 miles north of the exit on the levee.
Get there for 4 in the morning on Tuesday and Thursdays for a draw to hunt.
About 75% chance you get drawn.
You are welcome.

How early would you recommend getting out there to get a decent spot? Should I bring a few decoys? Is it normally full of people? I’m not looking to have my tires slashed by some meth head who thinks I took “his spot” on public land

Thank you for all the info. I look forward to trying it out and hope we cross paths out there one morning.

You’ll be alright, never had anyone mess with my vehicle yet. I get there around 5 and it’s a short walk to the water. Decoys probably won’t do much for you unless you set up on the power line where they’d be visible to overhead birds. I look for any concentrations of floating acorns especially around a downed tree in the water. Many times I’ve been set up along palmetto bayou and could here a flock whistling on the water 15 minutes before LST only 50 or so yards from me, so there’s that option of listening for woodies then go to them without spooking. I definitely recommend going out there during the day and looking for acorns and have a better picture of how to navigate along those two bayous in the dark. I’ll be out there at least a few mornings during the last 2 weeks of this month. As far as crowds, that’s over after thanksgiving weekend. You’ll probably only see a truck or two in the parking lot and that’ll be deer hunters during the Christmas/New Year’s holidays. Good luck and leave me a couple drake woodies, lol.

Did it all the time in the 90’s when the river flooded. Drove outside of town and put some decoys below the levee. Always did well.
