Heading there next week... this will be my 3rd trip out there; we go every year for the past 3 years. Was wondering how the fishing has been recently and how bad the islands look compared to last year.

Went halfway to comfort Island today. Water was nice. Kinda dirty. Didn't see any butt secks. Got a few nice trouts.

#1 Nice catch
#2 Don't think those last three are trouts, then again, who am I to judge
#3 Sorry you skunked on the butt secks. Keep trying.

That was the weirdest story that I didn't ever think I'd think about.

ETA: My wife said, "And they probably have wives at home who think they are just fishing buddies. They even bought a boat to hide it."

Not like anyone is getting pregnant. Just a couple baws on the boat throwing back some beers and having some fun. Harmless.

As for Chandeleur it's been hit or miss. Last time I went I found some good trout in dirty water... Not in the clean water whey they should be. Wind has been out of control. Last two weeks it's settled some. Should be good fishing if you are there and the wind is under 15

Been twice in the last month. First time was really good and last Friday was really slow. It was rough both times. *Live bait is always helpful out there.

Thanks much.

Good day for it. Seas are forecast for 1 ft or less. Wish I didn't have deadlines the next 2 weeks. Been trying to go out all spring and just hasn't worked out.

Out of LaFrance is the best route. Enough protected water and a shorter run.

We usually leave from camp in BSL and run the channel near Cat Island.
Fished there a couple weeks ago, rough as hell again. Found the smallest area of calm-ish water and did pretty good, all nice stuff.

Depends on what part of chain you want to hit. LaFrance is best if you want to go to New Harbor Island area but also fish Brush Island/Isle a Pitre on the way out/in (47 miles). Pass Christian/BSL is closest for New Harbor/north end of chain (35 miles). Venice is best for Breton and Gosier (30 miles). Hopedale also not bad for Curlew/Freemason (40 miles).

Topwater - Whichever one you like to use. I mostly use Rapala Skitterwalk

Suspending twitchbait - Mirrodine/Mirrodine XL.

1/8th oz jig head + Down South Lure - I like the silver flake with blue or purplish back and chatreuse tail

If you are using braid then tie on a 30lb flouro leader

Say cooler man how'd y'all do? I've been twice (once in May and once in June). Has been feast or famine. Outside of a two hr period on a May afternoon it was tough finding a consistent bite.
