Really starting to question the validity of the Pintail shortage. Pretty much every duck we have seen for the most part has been Pintails except for the random teal flock or group of Greys/Widgeon. Really kind of shocked that we haven’t seen more Mallards but I do know there is an outfitter East of Monroe that just went on Day 2 of a Mallard beating but he has some open water. Everything is locked up.

Come Feb 1st the ponds around the house will be loaded.
This is a reason why sportsmen from all over our state need to advocate and demand a 30 day later start to most seasons. Move archery deer from Nov 1 - Feb 28 etc. Out hunting weather conditions are 1 month later now. Our Oct weather we used to have now is in Nov. LA could still keep dove season in Sept to co-exist with corn harvesting, but start other seasons 30 days later and end them 30 days later.

October is easiest month to kill deer all year with a bow

Going to call Landry and ask him to nominate Boudinman for an appointment on the commission asap. I think he has two appointments coming up.

No new ducks in venice. Hunted Delta and scouted Pass A Loutre WMA. Same old ducks that have been here. Most won't come within 75 yds of anything that even looks like vegetation. Places that would have had thousands of ducks after a front like this have only a few dozen.

Is there anything for a duck to eat in Venice right now. I imagine with the river this low those ponds are pure saltwater and devoid of duck food?

Some up on Delta and baptiste but not much. None in in the WMA. You're point is well taken, but even in previous bad feed years there would be a nominal increase in numbers for a few days.

Yeah frick that in Louisiana. We still had mosquitoes eating our asses last weekend when the wind was blowing 15 mph and it was in the 30’s

Between the Avian flu and everyone finally catching on that the duck counts have at the very least been wildly off for decades now and at the worst intentionally inflated.
Yall better be ready to see season and harvest adjusted down for the first time in 30+ yrs.

Shite, I would do back flips if they cut it back to 3 and 30. Make duck hunting more about going than killing and getting it on the Insta right after. It also would eliminate half of the rif raff but I doubt it ever happens. Way too much $$$$ tied up in duck hunting now.

How do you figure this?

Hunted Lockport on Monday morning before the front hoping they would be ahead of it. Didn't see much movement at all.

I agree with the counts being down as I’ve heard biologist after biologist say the same. The Standard Sportsman is a good podcast with a lot of great guests, many of whom have said the same thing. Not sure about the impact of the Avian Flu yet but I would expect it to be significant.

Counts being down as in didn’t count because of Covid?
Or, are you saying you have had multiple biologist tell you that they are artificially inflating duck numbers in the counts on purpose.

Had a hell of a past few hunts on catahoula lake.
Killed 15 saturday (mostly Ringnecks)
Killed 16 Sunday (Teal/pintail/3 mallards)
Killed 42 Monday (6 mallards)
Killed 24 Tuesday (16 mallards)
Tuesday we let groups of 50-100 teal leave the decoys with confidence we would kill our limit of mallards. it was truly an unbelievable day
