Anyone grill on a Weber Smokey Mountain?

Not sure if I should get the Smokey Mountain or just a kettle.
I want to do some grilling but also some smoking. Obviously, the Smokey Mountain is better for smoking, but the Weber kettle can smoke plenty of butts using the snake or modified Minion method. At the same time, the kettle is a better grill than the Smokey Mountain, I assume.
I’m also interested in the pit barrel just because it looks awesome, and a Kamodo (perhaps the Akorn) due to versatility.
Your thoughts?

I have both and if I had to choose one I would pick the kettle and it's not close.

I have a kettle with a slow n sear and I’ve literally smoked and grilled everything with it.

Kettle, no question. Check out the accessories too. Got my pops a pizza oven kit (legit) and I think I saw a rotisserie add-on during that search. In fact, I know they have smoker boxes too.

I've got a WSM. Love it for smoking purposes, but that's all it's good for. You will get much more mileage out of a kettle if you are needing a grill as well as a smoker.

Yeah if you want to use it to grill, get the kettle hands down. I have both and while the WSM is certainly easier to do long smokes on and has more room, you can absolutely smoke in the kettle.
My advice is to get the 26" kettle. It's yuge.

Get both. I have a 24" WSM and 2 kettle's and sometimes use all three.
I like to finish my chicken and ribs over direct heat and keep a kettle lit for that purpose.

WSM is a smoker. It's a great smoker, but it is a unitasker.
The kettle can be used to grill (direct or indirect) or slow smoke (but won't hold as much meat as a WSM).
I've had both for years and use them both, depending on the project.
If you get a kettle, spring for a premium model with better handles, better grill grates, bigger wheels, pinned legs, etc. Not sure what they call it now; they always change the names of the models and features. I've had both, and the better one is well worth the extra $50 or so.
Good info on all things Weber, WSM or kettle, can be found over at the Virtual Weber Bullet site and forums. LINK
Register your grill or smoker with Weber online while it is new and you can find the model and serial numbers easily. That way, if you call years later for parts, they'll know what to send you.

My buddy bought this and I am supremely jealous.
Very even cooking surface. Larger grill area than the smokey mountain. Made great ribs

Yep. I got rid of my offset smoker and gas grill and got a 26 inch kettle. I've smoked plenty of ribs and butts on it. And with a chimney starter and a wad of newspaper I can have coals going and ready to grill in under 15 minutes. Plenty of room for your normal grilling. Lately we've been doing grocery shopping with the whole week in mind, and one night is grill night. We grill whatever we're having that night, and I always throw some other meat on there to have the next day. Even cooking two meals for four people, there's a ton of room left.

Thanks y’all for the help.
Gonna go with the 22’ kettle (the original kettle premium) and also grab a cover and chimney in the process. Are y’all aware of any places that run grill sales around Labor Day? The model I’m looking at seems to run around $150
Should have a butt going next weekend via the snake method as a test run for football season

I have a kettle and a WSM. I don't think I would get a WSM to grill with. It is however a great smoker!

I'd watch craigslist and facebook classifieds. you can frequently steal a performer for less than that 150.00 add some new grates and it will be basically brand new.

Webers are like iPhones. You seldom see them marked down except when they are about to be replaced by a new model.
You might be able to buy a 10% off coupon from Lowes here: LINK
I've never used that site, but another poster recently said it is legit despite its sketchy looks.

Watch Conns. AT the end of the season they mark them down 50%. I bought a Genesis 330 several years ago for $500 NIB

you may be able to get both for the price of one.

I have a kettle and can smoke a smaller brisket, 2 pork putts, or 2 racks St Louis ribs on it. I splurged and picked up a slow n dear and that thing is fantastic.

Those things are absurdly expensive.
