Had bad luck with shelter dogs lately. One had acute pancreatitis and didnt make it. One was diagnosed with distemper shortly after we got it and had to be put down so im striking that out for now.

I know guys who have gotten labs and immediately regretted it due to time requirement or chewing or energy or whatever. Maybe a shot in the dark here but I am looking for a lab that someone might be getting rid of. Preferably Less than a year old but not necessary. I don't want papers but would be interested to know if it has them.

This would be a family pet and camp dog. Have big yard, feild and pond and my wife spoils animals into sassy bitches. Hopefully this would be a win win for somebody.

Dude, just because I'm getting rid of my lab doesn't mean I want it to die. Sounds to me like you need to find another breed. And learn to spell.

Hey chump. Many people make this mistake and this guy is willing to take a dog in after a few unfortunate situations. Take that shitty attitude somewhere else.

I don't know where you are located but check Craigslist. Someone is always trying to off load a dog.

I love labs. Had a few over the years. Great pets and they are smarter than a lot of people I know. Good luck with your search.

Im not against buying one a dog but have seen way too many times where someone gets a lab or GSP or some type of sporting dog and is ill prepared to meet the dogs needs. Its not that people dont care for the dogs they just made a bad choice in getting one. The dog and owner end up in a bad situation.

Are you near st Landry parish?

Their shelter Facebook page has a story about Richard, a black lab. They said he is very well behaved and kept getting passed up. He started getting worried and would lick his cage as a stress relief.

On the day he was set to be euthanized, some woman came and rescued him and offered to foster him.

He looks like a great dog and is still available. There's a picture of him now on their site with a huge smile on a big couch.

That's a fer piece but I've got a nice 4 yr old very well behaved hunting lab that got ruined by some "expert" hunters. Tired of trying to get her out of the funk they slung on her. Smaller black lab female if you want to come get her in central La.

Don't give up on the shelter thing. Also let your local vet know. Picked up an awesome Chesapeake bay retriever mix that way before.

What happened here? Just curious so I don't make the same mistake with my 1 year old lab.

Same question regarding a group ruining the lab - passed on taking mine on a youth hunt as I don't think she is gun steady yet and don't want to push it.

To OP - check classified and sportsman as well. I got mine from someone and have been working with her myself. Great companion.
