The river is really high right now and have always heard this can produce good fishing, never tried it though.

Can probably wear the gar out with some dead shrimp under a cork. Use a trebblen hook tho and make sure they take it

Hmmm I might have to go try, I’ve never targeted gar, only catfish.

Imagine when the water first comes up you could catch them feeding on worms coming out the ground against the levee

I’d try the ferry landing on BR side of the river

I'm in the N.O. area and took a ride across the river to the west bank to hit Banting's Nursery for some seeds and 6 packs of starter plants.

While there I crossed the levee and saw 2 guys fishing and one of them had 2 blue cats, one about 5 lbs. and the other a good 25 lbs. caught on earthworms.

I gave it a shot in lower St. Bernard Parish yesterday and only caught 4 blues that were too small to keep. Even tried fishing under a cork about 20 yards off the levee in the flooded batture and didn't get a single bite.

Tried another spot in the Lower 9th Ward behind the old Holy Cross site and the wind was kicking so hard it had my poles shaking all over the place and I was using 4 oz. pyramid sinkers.

It's really good after the water recedes and the borrow pits are full of water and trapped fish. Just remember the land between the levee and the river may be private property.

Best way to fish the Miss River is by buying an inflatable swimming pool, launch it in the river, and fish from it. Tried and true

Caught 5 blues last night in front of l'auberge casino. Had some set hooks out with dead crawfish. Figure you can catch them on rod with that too. Just bring a case of beer and sit back

I used to fish on some private land near there. We had access to this piece of ground and there were numerous ditches that ran from the levee toe to the river. Normally they were dry, but when the river came up, I would set jugs in all the ditches and throughout the trees closer to the river. All it takes is a pirogue and lines. Lots of big cats caught back there when I was in college.
