Anyone ever use a spotting scope in place of binoculars?

What are you doing? Spotting scopes and high zoom binoculars are tough to use unless you're on the ground with a tripod or in a box stand that lends itself to propping up on the side.

I personally think high zoom binoculars are the better option for your average eastern hunter. They are much more compact and easier to use in a box stand. Spotting scopes are big and heavy and difficult to use in a stand. I use mine when I'm hunting off the ground, in conjunction with 10x binoculars, when I can see REALLY far (like a mile at least).

I can see a long way from most of our stands. I use 15x binos from those stands and 8x for closer woods

Binoculars are most useful in the woods. I've seen deer that were staring at me that I wouldn't have seen otherwise without them.

On right of ways, you gotta go straight to the rifle when you see something because if it happens to be a buck you want to shoot, you probably won't have time to frick with binoculars.

No spotting scope. I have binos anr monocular. Use both regularly. Hunt a 500yd pipeline on one side, and 300yd plot on other. Saves me from constantly pickn up gun to look through scope

My thing is they are fun for looking at stuff, but it generally doesn't do anybody any good to study a deer in detail from 1500 yards away if you can't go get it. It's fun to look at, but you can't kill it.

Spotting scopes are for western hunting and the gun range IMO.

If you are in a box stand with plenty of room I mean there's nothing wrong with it, it just won't be practical. Like others have said I like to use my binoculars to pass the time and watch animals screw around.

Given that as said a pair of high power binoculars would be more useful. I have a 80x power Spotting scope and unless you are on 20X you basically have to point exactly where you want to look unless you are looking say 500 yards away. There's not a lot of room for error I mean. Sometimes you will find some stuff in your spotting scope so far away that it takes a minute to find where you are looking exactly with your naked eye or binoculars.
