All the steering stuff is probably up top with the lower unit on a tube that goes up in there

Eta: introduces the possibility of 360* full power steering.

Merc is taking over the large CC game IMO.

Absolutely and if this monstrosity makes any kind of financial sense compared to a pair of 350's itll be popular as hell

IMO Yammy 300 was the last stand for Yamaha in the large CC market. Super reliable. New v8 mercs killed that. Tons of torque and power and still Reliable.

Way better than old school supercharged verados.

You think the big tiller handle will fit to bolt up on my 16' EDGE?

My 300r is cranked with a lithium and know of several others that are as well, I thought I was pretty well informed on Mercury rigging and this is the first I've heard it isn't recommended.

As Don would say, it's required, and the manual says AGM only. No wet-no lithium. I would go all lithium, but just don't want to chance it on a brand new boat.

I would not be worried about battery weight, that can be displaced by exchange of the power head. I would be more concerned with an ecm and electric coil motor over saltwater would be unreliable at best. Large boats can do it with the power bank being under board with fans, evaporators, and dehumidifiers. An electric power bank above or even to floor/transom would last no time in my opinion.

Endless problems to consider when talking about a fishing boat. Electric power is tough to make work on a 75 foot pushboat, much less a 42' center console

Yeah. Sorry but batteries are decades away from replacing diesel/gas/lng powered vessels.

Whoa there partner, “financial sense” and anything outdoor related should not be in the same sentience. The worst financial decision any man can make is marriage and there’s plenty of them happening daily.
Would take a merc 600 over remarriage any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

So, surely two of these new things will eventually trickle down in horsepower, no? I can't even begin to think about the prop concerns with a transmission. Also, if there's no steering parts or movement of the engine, do transoms get a redesign?

Well I'm sticking with my 9 pound lithium, if I have issues I'll have my dealer throw a AGM in it before the rep shows up

Good for you. I am too big of a pussy to do it on a brand new boat. Besides, Basscat doesn't have lithium as an option on a new order like Ranger does. I still may get lithium for my 24 volt TM, but as little as I stress a TM, I would be doing it only to shave weight. I really don't use my live well much, so not sure I need to do that. May be better for me to wait until I need to replace whichever AGM dies first to go all lithium.
