Or maybe "owned" one prior to an unfortunate maritime accident?

I've got a good bit of .222 ammo but nothing to fire it from, so I might try to get that fixed in the near future.

Quick Google-Fu shows the Remington model 722 as an option, but it looks like Tikka has a T3 chambered in .222 as well.

I understand it's mostly a varmint round, but I'm curious to hear any stories or suggestions from anyone who owns/owned one.

I’ve heard it flies like a 6.5 Creedmore and kills like a .243.

Probably just rumors.

Nah, .222 Remington.

I've got a picture of a package of rounds. If I can find it I'll upload it.

Never heard of the .222

Thanks for the note!

Neither had I until I stumbled across these rounds. They were my dad's, but I'm about 99% sure he didn't own a weapon to fire them.

Pops never was one to pass on a good deal, so here we are.

WOW, that is one fast bullet! 3500FPS

That would be one good "head shot hog" gun.

Never shot one, but is it really that much different than a 5.56/.223? I think they are close to the same. If you really just have a crapload of .222 ammo, I can see buying a rifle to shoot it, other than that, I think you are better off with 5.56/.223, just for the ammo choices.

I've got a .22-250 that I love to shoot, but the good ammo costs a bit more.

I think you're right, also. I've got a Ruger 5.56 so I'm good there.

I just have several hundred rounds of this .222 with no way to make them go *bang*.

This wouldn't be a rifle platform to replace another platform, just something to bring to the camp and plink a little bit. Put a bipod on it and a big ol' scope...

I also got a bunch of .44 mag from him, but he never owned a .44 mag. I think I'm shopping for one of those, too.

That was one of the first centirefire rounds I shot as a kid. My great uncle had one. Passed down to my uncle. We still shoot it occasionally.

Had a cousin whose dad gave him one but his mom wouldn’t let him keep it in the house. I kept it for him for years and used it coyote hunting. It was a great shooting rifle. I have a 22-250 currently and love it.

THE most accurate centerfire cartridge ever created at short range (100-300yds) until the 6PPC was discovered. In the 1950's to early 1970's, the .222 dominated benchrest competition / matches. This World Record target was shot in 1973 and stood for 40 years until a .0077" 5-shot group was recorded in 2013.

this cartridge is so easy to load for Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could shoot tiny 1-hole groups. I've owned several yet got bored with their accuracy.

It'd be a good idea to make sure those rounds can never be loaded into a .223/5.56. If the firing pin could hit it, you'd probably get some case head separation.

Killed my first deer with a .222. My old man hand loaded some rounds for it. Still have the gun, shoots like a laser beam with the rounds my father made.
