Lost my D2 Rat II while throwing a cast net last weekend. Looking to snag something with a S35VN blade for under $100. I haven't seen anything bad about them but curious if any folks here have feedback. $85 bucks is about the most I could stomach replacing if I use it. I'm going with S35VN over D2 since I started saltwater fishing again.

This is what 1 day of wade fishing does to a cheap D2 knife.

Deuce Midnight carries one and I'm starting to look at them. They're definitely hot right now, for sure.

(ETA: Rat 1 or 2 in D2 is an insane value, though)

Bought an Elementum a few months ago. Great knife and no problems but, then again, I don't keep it submerged in saltwater all day either.

Can't beat em. Mine had an awesome patina on it from skinning a roadkill deer and not cleaning the blood off for a few days cuz it was rolling around on the floorboard.

Kershaw guy.com has a kershaw link in 20cv with aluminum scales for 69.99 right now. I got one in m390 last year for 85.

Edited to correct steel type typo.

It's more than you said you want to spend, but I really like my Spyderco Salt knife. Used it almost exclusively salt water fishing for about 20 years now and not a speck of rust.

Yes it is. I agree with tonydtiger that the spyderco salt series would be good if you are exposing it the salt water so much.

I'd be terrified of losing it

You could get the screaming banana yellow handle to help with that.

My issue with the Tenacious is that is a lot of metal for the cutting edge you get. Weight, overall, is good for that size knife, but I would almost consider a Delica or Endura with the steel you want. More of a slim package, "more" of what you'd be going Spyderco for. Now, for a bigger knife for a lot more money, the PM2 is a fantastic knife, but overkill for most folks.

I haven't had to use Spyderco customer service, but fit and finish they are top notch. There is a reason why so many guys love them.

(ETA: The OP probably does need a Salt series for his intended purpose. Maybe get a good retention system to get over the fear of losing it.)

I know how you feel, most of the knives that I carry daily are sub $40. I have the spyderco tenacious in 8cr 13 mov steel (chinesieum). Truthfully it’s scary sharp, easy to resharpen and if I lose it or break it at work, no big deal.

Same, and it is a good value steel, roughly equivalent to Japanese Aus-8 (or 440C). They're about $45 to $55 depending on options and yet another one of those knives in the $40 to $50 range in the market today that are such huge upgrades to what was available just 10 or 15 years ago.

It really is a great time to be in the hobby.

Love my civivi. I have the exact one pictured in the OP. The canvas material on the handle stains but I think it gives it character. I still remember the deer I killed last year every time I look at the handle because of the faint blood stains still on it.
