Anybody every fish near Gatlinburg?

Leaving Tuesday to go spend a week or so in Gatlinburg. Going with the wife and daughter and it’s Little Country’s first mountain trip. Of course we’re going do all the dinner shows, attractions and moonshine shops, but it’s also going to be a lot of sight seeing and messing around in the woods/streams. Is there any possible way to catch fish off the side of the road somewhere? If so, about where? What do I throw? Because I have no clue whatsoever.
TIA
TIA

Just got back from there last week. Google Forbidden Caverns. There's a little restaurant right before you get there where you catch trout right next to the restaurant and they cook it for you.
English Mountain Trout Farm,,,we didn't do it due to time constraints.

fish any stream you want for brown trout and small mouth. If you are downtown gburg fish under bridges, especially in fridays (no fishn on thursdays downtown, they drop trout in upstream every thur for visitors) Friday is best fishn obvisously... not much size to those, but fun to catch. I use regular old beetle spins, but local outdoor shops/bass pro has specific trout artifical lures you can get too that works. One hook onky, no trebble hooks. Make sure you get license. Game wardens will check you. But once you have license you can fish any stream in the park and have success. Now if you are in pigeon forge, go behind econo lodge, nice area there, and last summer i watched a guy pull several huge trout out of there in about 30mins.

I recall someone mentioning that you can’t use barbed hooks either. What’s up with that?
I’m goin to have my truck bed loaded down with crap and don’t want to damage a good rod. I’ve pulled in a few hammer bream and sac a lait with my Zebco “dock demon” that fits in my toolbox. That’s probably what I’ll be using.

i heard that before, but its not a law. I talked to the people in bass pro up there. They dont even sell barbless hooks.
as far as rod. Last 2 years ive took a $20 ultra light spin rod. Idk if you plan on bank fishing or wading.. you will have much more access by wading. But take you some waders if so. Water us SUPER cold. I wear waders in july, not insulated.. just something to keep me out of direct contact. Your legs will be numb haha

Got my insulated hip boots already in my tool box also. I’m catching something this trip.

good luck, have fun. You can catch small trout pretty much any day downtown under the bridges. I usually fish the ones in front of river terrace hotel by the aquarium. But Fridays are always best. Again regular old bettle spins work fine.

Barbless hooks make it easier to catch and release.

You have to fish with artificial bait and has to be single hooks in the park. No worms/corn or multi hook setups. You can fish two flies like a dry and dropper/two droppers.
I use to fly fish the park all the time when I lived in Knoxville. I have other spots now that I am in Chattanooga.
One of my favorites is to park at the Chimney Tops trail. Walk back through the tunnel if you walk towards Gatlinburg. After you get through the tunnel, you have to slide down the mountain and into the river, it's not an easy climb down. You can fish all the way back to the trail and catch a ton of Rainbows. If you fish it slow, you can spend a good amount of a day on that section. Once I get back to the trail, I go up to the trail, I think to the 4th bridge and fish from there up to the 6th bridge. I can't remember the bridges exactly. It's high enough there to fish for native brookies.
Middle Prong by Tremont is another popular spot.
Abrams Creek in Cades Cove is fun.
West Prong between Gatlinburg and Townsend has a bunch of browns, if you want to go for the Smokies Grand Slam (Brook/Brown/Bow) in a single day.
Little River Outfitters is a great fly shop in Townsend. Highly recommend those guys, they will put you on anything you want.
Cherokee has a trout trophy section that is really fun to fish too.
Raven Fork over by Cherokee is where you go to get on the Native Brookies as well.

Yes in a stream in the national park and only caught trout that were barely bigger than the palm of my hand
Ultra light tackle. One of the local bait shops sold the tiniest silver spoon I’ve ever seen and some tiny bait balls that were about the size of a BB.

Sure have. Got to meet search and rescue last time I went, too.
Great info already, but I'll add this if you're a flatlander like me: At the first clap of thunder in the distance, no matter if you're wearing the wild brookies arses out, RUN FOR YOUR DAMN LIFE TO THE HIGHWAY SIDE OF THE RIVER.
Ya ever heard of rhododendron hell, aka, RHODO HELL? I have. With shorts on. (Jorts actually, but it was a joke.) (The chafing was not a joke.)
Have ya ever walked 9 miles in the dark mountains to reach a bridge crossing over a babbling mountain brook-turned-flash-flooding-maneater? I have. Without shoes on. (Because the SOB sucked them off my feet.)
Ya ever heard of the isolated population of synchronized lightning bugs located in the Smokies and how mesmerizing they are in the pitch black darkness of the mountains? I have. While sitting right next to a pile of bear chit. (Bear chit that was located only because of the bugs illuminating the nighttime forest into neon green daytime.)
Ya ever wondered if the owner of that bear chit was gonna be the last thing you see while the flash of the bugs allowed you to see it, and then wondered how you could be such a hardheaded dumbass who's cursed with an addiction to good fishing?
I HAVE.
But good luck to you and the little one though baw!
