My 11 yo is quite happy at the moment. He is the proud new owner of a Benelli M2 Left Handed 20 ga.

Took me a year to get him to settle on a comfortable gun.

My 7 year old twin boys broke the seal on their new Red Rider BB guns from their pow pow for their birthday. They shot their limit of aluminum cans

I bought a used Remington model 121 22lr pump at cabelas. I had one growing up and was one of my favorite guns. Great guns and tack drivers. My son is 7 and will give it to him in a few years.

I tried my best to not drop that kinda coin on a shotgun for him, but he is a real good shot. He's been outshooting and outhunting me for 3 yrs. Deal is he is starting to shoot competitively, and he needed a gun that he could fire 100-150 times on any given day. He shot a full 100 rd box through it this afternoon. Missed first 2 clays, then was on after that.

Did the same thing yesterday with a 35lb draw bow. After he sent 5 or so down range he was on from 20-25.

Progression for us growing up was:

Start with 20 gauge single shot crack barrel.

Graduate to 20 gauge side by side

Remington 1100 LT-20 (third shot changed my life)

12 gauge that you bought for yourself.

I can only imagine how much grief you guys would give me if I mentioned he's only hunted high fence leases, and he's slated to take 160+ the week after Christmas.
