Anybody carry a 1911?

I'm going to buy a 1911 in the next week or so, looking at the rock island armorys. I'm debating between the 4.25" and the 5". I'm wanting to carry it IWB with a JM4 tactical holster. Anybody carry a 1911 and if so, what size?

I have a S&W commander carry. It’s sweet, but still too big & heavy to carry anywhere other than around the farm.
Plus the safety features of a 1911 make me a little uneasy out in public with it.
If you can afford a nice 1911, you can afford a decent little carry piece.

I have and carry a kimber ultra carry 2. It fits perfect on my in a galco inside the pant holster in the small of the back. There you won’t notice the weight much.
Doesn’t fit too well and the weight gets old when you try to carry it somewhere else.

I have two commander size one of which I carry sometimes. It’s a light weight aluminum frame. Not too heavy.
Also have a Delta Elite that I also carry rarely. It heavy but not wide and carries pretty well despite the weight.

I think I'm going to go with the commander. Rock island calls it a mid size but it's the 4.25" version. The smallest 10mm rock island makes is that mid size. I'll give it a shot and if it's uncomfortable, I'll just get a little carry gun.

Sometimes carry Ruger 1911 (great gun) in an IWB alien gear. Actually tucks better than my glocks in a way because its slimmer. Holster could use more retention in my opinion though.

I live my colt delta. My brother shoots the sig said 1911. Both are very comfortable guns... they fit my hand well. And very easy to hide

.380 v 45. Don't think that counts

I used to carry an American Classic Commander sized (4.25" barrel) 1911 in 45 ACP. I don't carry it much anymore because of it's extra weight. Now I mostly carry a Kahr CM9. If I carry a 45, it's a Kahr CW45. If i were to buy a 1911 45 to carry I'd get a Commander lightweight and would look VERY hard at Ruger's version. For me, the 4.25" barrel handles better (and is a little lighter) than the 5" barrel. Nothing wrong w/ RIA. They make good, basic 1911's at a decent price. I believe I read somewhere that either RIA or AC was going to start making a lightweight model........some day......

I wish I could find a lightweight model from RIA. Now my debate is between 10mm and 45acp. The price of ammo does not matter to me. I want this gun to conceal carry in public and as a side arm when hunting. Still debating which caliber I'm going to order.
