Try scrubbing it with rubbing alcohol. It burns like hell, but I find if I scrub it with alcohol a couple times as soon as I notice a couple bumps it doesn't get too bad. Although, when I get it it usually only ends up being a few small dime-sized patches here and there. I have a friend who gets a rash over his entire body when he comes in contact with it.

Get in the shower

Get the water as hot as you can stand it

Scratch rash until it bleeds

Put alcohol on it

Most relieving shite ever and it'll be gone the next day.

Holy hell does it ever feel great.

I don't have enough hair on my chest to use bleach.

1. Take Benadryl allergy tablets (just as if you have allergies)
2. Wash the rash in hot water and oil displacement type detergent such as Dawn dish detergent (not soap) and a rag. (The bad stuff in poison ivy is an oil). Wear surgical gloves when doing this. Throw away rag or wash per below instructions.
3. Slather Benadryl cream on the cleaned rash (careful to not touch it with your fingers and thus spread it).
4. Cover rash with gauze or wear long sleeve shirt.
5. Treat twice a day, taking Benadryll tablets every 4-6 hours.

Wash anything that comes into contact with the rashes (clothes & bedsheets). Wash in warm/hot water, but add gob of GoJo or other degreasing hand cleaner into the water. Do not wash with other clothes. (speaking from experience)

Gotta isolate the stuff and keep from spreading it to other parts of your body, your family, or worse yet, re-infesting yourself at a later date (been there, done that)

Got any pics of the stuff...promise to not make fun of you....maybe

Put a cup or two of Chlorox in a bath tub of warm water and soak for 15-20 minutes.

Has always worked for me.

Heat and scratching makes poison ivy fester and spread. Doc's have always told me to take cold showers and avoid scalding hot water because it will open the blisters and allow oils to spread to other parts of your skin. I'm surprised to hears so many people say to put hot hot water on it. This is a head scratcher to me... Ya'll musta went to the local coon arse docs. but whatever works i guess.

The best thing i've ever used that was OTC was this stuff my mom got me from some health food store in hippy land, North Carolina. It was blue and when it dried it created "a skin" over the rash. It is the best stuff I've ever used, but of course it was homemade recipe and only can be found at that local store. I'll call her and see if I can get the name of it.

This thread is full of fail, Poison Ivy does not spread, you can take to goo that comes out the blisters and take a bath in it, it will not cause a rash, the only thing that causes a rash is the urshoil that comes from the plant, once it is off of skin everything else is just a reaction. The goo in the blisters is the bodies reaction and will not cause a rash. First thing you should do is thoroughly clean the area with dawn dishwashing detergent, clean all clothes that have come in contact with same. Then all you can do is treat the symptoms, best done with steroids (oral or injection, or both), anti histamines (benedryl) and cream, again I like benedryl , and just wait it takes time to go through the process

The only time you need to use cold water is after direct contact when the oil is still on your skin. after that it doesnt matter. Not sure why your doc would tell you what you just posted, it sounds like you might have the

Might of had it mixed up, but always used cold water just as a precaution.

So are you saying poison ivy doesn't spread from just the rash on your skin?

You're right, the rash itself does not spread...however, the residual plant oil that causes the rash to form in the first place spreads in a big way. Same result. Some of that residual oil is apparently in or on the rash.

I got first hand experience here with a poison ivy rash that "spread".

No it doesnt. it spreads from contact with the oil. now sometimes you still have a small amount still on you if you havent cleaned enough and when you scratch you can then spread it more.
