the rash did not spread, you spread the oil, you either did not clean everything well, touched some clothing that still had some oil on it, but once the urshoil is gone the rest is just a reaction, think of a second degree burn, it forms a blister, the goo inside of that blister is the same stuff inside the poison ivy pustules, if you take the goo out of a burn blister and put it on another part of your body you are not going to get a burn there???
