Dianne Feinstein Introduces Bill to Raise Age of Purchase of Rifles to 21

quote:

Two days after an AR-15 rifle was used to kill 17 people and wound 15 more at a high school in Parkland, Fla., Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced her intention to introduce a bill raising the minimum age for purchasing a rifle to 21. "Under current law, licensed gun dealers cannot sell a handgun to anyone under 21, but they are allowed to sell assault rifles like the AR-15 to anyone over 18," Feinstein said in a statement. "This policy is dangerous and makes absolutely no sense."

Sadly some OBers in the past couple of days have demonstrated agreement with this nonsense policy. This policy is nothing but "feel-good" bullshite that prohibits people from owning firearms.

Except at 18 you can legally buy a handgun. This woman's desire to ban guns and lack of knowledge on the topic is absolutely unmatched stupidity.

A 12 gauge pump action shotgun with buckshot can do the same if not more damage as an ar15 in the same school scenario.
It's never been a gun problem and never will be. It's a society problem.

But they sure can carry an "assault rifle" in the military at 18

And people wonder why people want to protect every gun right. You take away one, then use it to slowly take others

We should have unrestricted carry in all government buildings, especially in D.C. Then our representatives will feel the safety we all feel.

They also get trained on how to handle that rifle while in the military. They're not a bunch of emo 18 yr olds that just got made fun of on Facebook and are now butt hurt. I'm not for any more gun control, but the 'they can carry a rifle in the military at 18' argument has no place in this discussion.

So, if you’re emo or have a Facebook acct you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun?

What he's saying is the 18 year olds can use firearms argument is a pure emotional appeal that easily rebutable.

I know exactly what he’s saying. It’s just as rediculous as my post.

It has nothing to do with age. If anything, background checks should include mental health checks. Meaning if your on antipsychotics, then you should be required to have regular checkups with a Dr. if you skip multiple appointments you should not be able to buy a gun.

So you should be able to buy guns if you skip your appointments?

Correct. A real one too. You know, one that goes burrrp. Not a semi auto rifle that is mistakenly labeled an assault rifle.

In 2011, there was 323 murders committed with a rifle but 496 murders committed with hammers and clubs.

More recently, in 2016, over four times as many people were stabbed to death than were killed with rifles of any kind.

Not arguing the fact that changing the law to 21 for a rifle is bullshite. Simply pointing out that the 18 year olds in the military defense will get destroyed by any anti 2A person with half a brain.

Her bill won't pass. She introduces an AWB almost every year along with several other gun-control proposals. She will go to her grave with the full knowledge that she is on the losing side.

You're acting like this is an issue of kids bringing an AR15 to school and accidentally shooting a bunch of people. Its not an issue of training and gun safety. It's a mental issue that no amount of gun safety is going to prevent. The military may do an OK job at rifle training, but they are pretty shite in the managing mental health department.

The "people need to be required to get training" crowd always make me laugh. As soon as everyone with an AR starts getting tactical training, that same group will predictably flip the frick out.

WE'VE GOT TRAINED KILLERS EVERYWHERE!!!
