it makes more sense to go to 4 tags (or by parish) and enforce it.
The most difficult part of that. You could go to 2 tags, and it wouldn't make a huge difference for the herd, because they can't effectively enforce it.
The habitat needs to be managed better though, bottomline.
Hell, the timber management is atrocious on LDWF land. Just this past season, they clearcut some of the prettiest woods in Sherburne. Made no sense. First of all, it just created a giant wasteland that will be sparingly used by anything this season. Next year and as time progresses, the habitat will be better. But for now, it isn't providing much. It's just a debris field.
Second, they could have harvested some timber for sell and improved the habitat by doing selective cuts. This would have stimulated the understory and drastically improved the area for deer.

I would invite you out if I lived anywhere in the area.
Are their any hunter apprenticeship programs available?

I think a lot parents work longer hours than their parents did.
I also agree with access to land. I grew up a Deer Hunter. Why? My dad worked for a company that leased land out in West Texas, therefore we always had a place to go hunt. We maybe only went 2 to 3 times a season. But that was enough to instill a good hunter value system in me. Hopefully, i'll be able to pass on the same values to my girls by taking them hunting.

Yea the timber management across the state is horrible, fixing that along would help the deer herd a lot.

Probably the reason they clearcut it. For the woodcock emphasis area

True. But it's still just crazy to me to clearcut some of that old timber like that.

You should see the stats in Mississippi bro. They wish it was only that bad. There are almost no youth hunters coming into system. (I guess PETA won) The state will be overrun with deer ?? within 10-15 years until cwd hits. Predators are coming back big time. We even saw a red wolf this year. Between that and damn pigs..,,
Maybe a wolf pack will eat a bunch of Peta people

If you live in Louisiana you will just have to wait. Louisiana wildlife and fisheries is a bad joke. They used to send a commercial fishery whore as the agency rep to the council until they caught him committing a felony but rather than arrest him they just fired him

Its not all about access. Its more a time management thing in my opinion
I have two boys and dont have time to go scout and set up stands that takes hours and days and weekends to get organized. Even with duck hunting the reward isnt enough for me to spend my time and money to maybe find a few ducks that wondered into my public pop up blind.
I purchased a boat and have been able to load up my kiddos after work or quick trips on weekends and catch fish and also get to hang out and have fun in the outdoors with them and i think that is actually pretty popular by the numbers of boats i see everywhere i have went
Its much more time friendly to fish than hunt imo

I think the interest is there, just lack of opportunity. Growing up I had an unlimited number of places I could hunt. Now if I didn’t own my own land I’m not sure where I’d hunt. I expect many don’t hunt because they don’t have land available to them.

We were having this conversation this weekend at the deer camp. Last year Mississippi games wardens were dropping in on deer camps and polling members on why the decline in Louisiana deer hunters. Let me take a guess.
