In a couple of weeks, I will be utilizing a fishing guide service in Arkansas for my first time ever. How much should guide be tipped along with the guys that clean your catch? I'm honestly clueless. TIA for the help.

Fishing for crappie and bream. I want to bring all fish caught home, so not looking at having the fish cleaners keep any of the fish as their tip.

First, this is super shitty. What makes you think they want fish as their tip? They do this every day, the last thing they want is fish.

For Inshore and offshore, we generally tip about 20%, or more if they clean a lot of fish for you, bag it up, etc...

You seem awfully riled up for so early on a Friday. Dude clearly said this is first time ever to use a guide. How about not attacking him and simply saying that isn't common practice?

I'm actually going on a guided perch trip tomorrow. There are 15 of us total on two boats. I told the guys to bring at least $20 cash to tip the guide. This particular guide service charges $1/fish to clean, so I told em to bring enough cash for that as well, or clean your own fish. So I plan to tip out at least $20 to the guide, and prolly $10-$15 for the cleaning. If each guy tips $20, thats $150 in tips to each guide. That's about 18%. If we do well, I'm sure a few of us will throw in another $20 or so.

For perch ???

That's price gouging worse than a car dealer.

I'll gladly pay $25 to have my fish cleaned and bagged while I sit and drink beer and watch. Besides, with smaller fish like perch, I typically frick up half the fillets when cleaning them myself

About 15 years ago 2 of my sons and I bank fished a nice 4 acre pond and we caught 176 bream in 1 hour using cane poles. A neighbor gave us some of the poles so we just thought we’d try them out. We each kept count of how many we caught and summed it up.

It was such a blast that we went back the next day with fly rods and the bull bream put up good fights. Great fun.

I always prefer to clean my own fish. The only thing I would worry about when it comes to having someone else clean them, is they may not rinse the filets well enough.

You don't want to freeze filets with slime all over them. Not even a little, it'll make them taste fishy.

If the they're cleaning your fish. Just make sure they're doing it to your satisfaction.

The filets need to be rinsed really well.

Was working in cansas city Missouri with my dad in 2015. Outside the hotel was about a 2 or 3 acre pond. It was infested with rock bass. We had a competition: both were using a stock dock demon with a 1-1/2" brown jerkbait, first to 100 wins. I shite you not, in 45mins he had 100 and I had 96. It was taking longer to unhook them than catch em. Every fish was 4-6" but an absolute blast on that kids toy.

Never fished with a guide

I've always wondered this:

So what if the guide is also the owner?

He sets his price as an owner and a guide for what he feels is necessary to run a profitable business as an owner..does he still get a tip?

I was up in Arkansas trout fishing on the Little Red a few weeks ago. I and another guy booked a morning fly fishing trip and it was $300. We caught a bunch of fish and the two of us each kept a limit (5 fish each) that they cleaned. The guide (Beau Saunders) was great. Down to earth, cool to hang out with, very knowledgeable. We tipped $100.

Settle down dude. Your response was super shitty, the guy was not suggesting he wanted to tip with fish, just the opposite.
