Havent shot their 9mm but their 10mm is awfully unreliable. One of the worst striker 10mm.
I have a M&P 2.0 metal with over 1000 rds through it. Not one ftf or fte.

Yeah, I think they skimped on 10mm and undersized things. Surprising all these years later they havent fixed it.

The S&W M&P 2.0 has my vote. It places very high in national practical shooting competitions. Inb4 "it's the shooter not the gun" - true, just I'm saying it has a very high ceiling, & we don't see the other two mentioned show up.

I’m holding out my vote until we have more info.
If it’s the cheaper S&W 9mm I say XD all day.
If I had to guess I bet you’re looking at the SD9 S&W and most basic XD. Puts them all around the $300 to $350 range with the Taurus.

Ahh, it's raffle win. It could be a basic Shield close to that price range.

None of the above I found with my wife the mechanics of the slide mechanism was something she would fail at during stress....She does awesome with a Ruger LCR 5 shot in 38 special....K.I.S.S.

If it's a M&p 2.0, get that all day. Possibly the most reliable pistol available, and that saying something with today's market.
Hell, Garand Thumb did the ice and mud test and the M&P killed it in both.
If it's an older Shield, that's still a good gun, just not as big and nice.
The Springfield XD were decent guns, but the Smith & Wesson is better.
The Taurus is basically just a truck/backup carry gun. Their QC is much better than it used to be, but Taurus still has a somewhat sketchy reputation.

Have a Taurus and an S&W. Can't go wrong with either of those. My wife has a Taurus and does fine with it. Very easy for her to use.

Just confirmed that the S&W is in fact the SD9.
Waiting on info about the Taurus and Smithfield
Thx

get the xd.
i'd recommend you eventually buy a home defense pistol that is more catered to what fits you and your wife after you shoot this a bit and get some experience. The xd is the ultimate truck gun.

Hard pass on that thing. Saw too many of those with issues back when I worked at the gun range.

I bought one off KR about the time I joined the website.
He warned me it was poo but it was cheap and I only had a couple of pistols and no 9mm at the time. It and the Llama I bought are probably the two shittiest things I own

I would go this route. I've had 3-4 different versions of the XD over the years. I had the .40, and later bought their subcompact in the .40 as well, since it could also take full size mags with a little sleeve on them to give you a full size grip but with the shorter barrel. Now I've got the slimmer single stack 9mm, and it is a great little gun. Thin enough to easily CC, but with a slightly longer frame than the old sub compacts.

I bought an SW9VE about 15 years ago. It shoots, and that's about it. I spent 2 hours replacing springs and polishing trigger parts to get the 12lb trigger down to about 7.5. Not a fun shooter.
I use it as my spray paint practice canvas. Current iteration is Fall Out battle worn.

I was in your shoes and made my first handgun purchases this year.
Concealed carry/bedside for the wife: S&W 632 Ultimate Carry 32 H&R Magnum
I chose a Canik Mete MC9 to keep on me: Mete MC9
Finally, I bought a SAR9 Mete for a home defense gun. I am still trying to decide what light and sights to put on it. It is going to live at my bedside: SAR9 METE

PSA Dagger. Price is right and functions great! Sometimes PSA has deals with the Compact, a range bag, and handful of mags at a great price.
Still, there are many 9MM that are perfect t to keep at home for protection
