Looking at buying a crappie (mainly) boat - possibly War Eagle 754VS - and need some opinions. Would also consider different boats. Advice appreciated.

He said Crappie so unless you know of a new saltwater breed, I’m assuming he means fresh. Suzuki doesn’t push their motors like the other two do but you’d buy a 60, put it on the back and almost forget it was there. They’re probably the best made engines

I would look at how many servicing dealers they have more of in your area for that brand as they all break or need service.

That’s about like asking which brand truck or shotgun on here.

Everyone will have their favorite and rep it to no end.

I’d look at a Suzuki or tohatsu before I settle on Yamaha or Mercury.

I'm a Yahama guy but a buddy that runs a Atchafalaya Swamp Tour business is very high on the Mercury 60 4 stroke "big foot" which has a heavier duty lower unit...

Take a look at a G3 Sportsman 17 SS. It looks like a nice boat for crappie.

Not sure about the Suzuki 60, but it’s super hard to find OEM parts for my 25 Suzuki that’s only 8 years old. They stop making them after a few years.

Tohatsu makes some models of Mercury. I have a Al-Weld hull that really like with a Yamaha.

I had Suzuki 90 that when you shut down the engine would not crank immediately after that if you wanted to crank it. It took a few minutes to cool off and then it would crank fine. The dealer found out when that unit cut off it was extremely hot when water pump stopped and the fuel turned into vapor. Then after it cooled down a few minutes it cranked up fine. Kind of a quirk that Suzuki had no fix for.

I had a few quirks under warranty and the boat stayed on the shop longer than usual waiting on parts.

The lack of servicing dealers in South Louisiana and parts support is why I sold my boat with a Suzuki on it.

I run a 2016 Yamaha F60 on my duck boat (16' X 48" flat).....to say its a dream is an understatement. Can't praise it enough, but I've been a Yamaha guy since the mid 90's. Mercury has come a long way, and from what I'm told from dealer buddies, I wouldn't steer away from them like in the past. See how price point compares, I know Yamaha is going to be mega bucks. Suzuki is a great motor as well

I believe any Mercury under 90hp is outsourced to Tahatsu. so basically you would be buying a Tahatsu motor with Mercury labeling.

and Tahatsu is a good motor
