Just so y’all know, the Mercury 40-60 is a joint venture between Mercury and Tohatsu. They designed the engine together and built an assembly plant in China. The majority of the parts are produced in Fond du Lac, WI and then shipped to China for final assembly.

The Mercury 2.5s - 30s are, for the most part, black Tohatsus.

I recommend the brand that provides you with the best local customer service.

In that HP range it doesn't rally matter. Get the best boat, motor deal for your application.

Tahatsu is a good motor

Ran a 50 Tohatsu tiller for years. Built like a tank and bulletproof. Main thing I would look for is service.

Id go with the Tohatsu. The Merc and Yamaha are sticks in the mud

Buy whatever has the most convient service department near you house. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Well it looks like the Merc is a Tohatsu and I know the Yami is not a stick in the mud so I am going to reserve judgement with this statement.

Exactly. You are comparing two quality motor brands. Can't go wrong with either. Go with the most convenient.

60 Suzuki is the best in its class right now, and much cheaper, lighter, and quicker than Yamaha. I’d go Suzuki all day

I have a 17' triton crappie edition with a 75 optimax on it, no complaints. I also have other boats with a 200 yamaha and one with a 70 suzuki, none are problems.
