35 Whelan is a 9mm projectile in a 30-06 case.

The 35 Remington is a much smaller case and smaller projectile. You'll get much more muzzle energy from the Whelan. I'll pray for your shoulder though.

The Whelen is a beast. Never had a 35, but they are apples to oranges.

Thanks for all the input. It will be a gun I only use during primitive week and shots are less than 150 yards.

Well, sounds like you might be leaning 35...but consider the fact that you are buying a limited use weapon...the Whelen can do the 35's job and then a bunch more. Just my 2 cents.

Seriously consider the Whelen. There is nothing primitive about it other than being a single shot. You can also find ammo for it fairly easily compared to the Rem.

Just got a .35 Whelen but have not sighted in yet. Looking forward to finding out if some of you are just a bunch of sissies.

My old man hunts with his Whelen during the regular season lots of times - he said it kills on one end and cripples on the other.

Mine isn't as bad as my 7 mag. Of course my 7 mag weighs 7lb.

Still, don't want to sight them both in on the same day.

I have a Whelen with the limb saver recoil pad, it makes a world of difference. Also since it has become so popular there are several lighter loads available. Enjoy.

I have the CVA Scout V2 that has a Crushzone recoil pad. I shoot a 12 gauge BPS for duck hunting. Can't be any worse than 31/2 inch mags. But not going to sight in with 250 grain

I have the CVA with the longer barrel. It kicks but not as bad as the handirifle. 35 whelen puts the deer on the ground

Any time the box of bullets weighs more than the gun, you're about to have a bad day at the range.
