I just opened my gun safe to see at flip mounted 2x8 bushnell on a model 100 .308.
The scope was so bad I used to flip that thing over at like 4:30 because I couldnt see the damn crosshairs.

yes put a scope, but a smaller one. 2-7x33 or such
and please whatever you do, do NOT put see through mounts.
I agree w/ Upgrade and Downshift. Of the specific models you mentioned, I'd get the 336W. (I like stainless steel, but I have a hard time liking it on a traditional gun like the 30-30 lever action.) I wasn't aware Rossi and Mossberg also make lever action guns, but would consider them, as well. I'd make sure the scope can be mounted over the action. A variable scope is fine, but for inside 150 yards, I'd probably leave it on 3 or 4X and crank it up for range time. "See through mounts" are a solution to a non-existent problem if a hunter has practiced close range/snap shooting sufficiently. For inside 150 yards, the 30-30 is a fine hunting round. 30 caliber bullets make a good wound. In addition, the bullets loaded in the 30-30 perform well. There's a lot to be said for a lever action that handles well, carries nicely and is chambered in a round that kills well. A lever action 30-30 does all that, especially inside 150 yards.

Just read last page.
Not what I imagined was happening in here.

See through mounts would have gotten me my biggest buck to date. Long story short, mr. Deer chasing doe 5 yards from stand in thicket. Couldn't get scope on him and in the rush I fogged my scope. Game over. May not have gotten him anyway, but it's an example of when they would be useful.

I've had one for years and killed many deer with it, it's a great woods and carry around gun. I never put a scope on mine but did try a red dot on it and it worked good. Hadn't shot it in years though.

Love me a turdy turdy. But here a secret few know.........I have never put a hole in anything with one. Started hunting with a model 700 270 win and never looked back.
