I shoot a 26" barrel with an extended Briley choke tube for all my duck and goose hunting, so basically a 27" barrel? Really comes down to personal preference with the barrel length between 26-28, a 28" MAY help someone swing through the shot a little easier but ballistically there's no discernible difference.
For those of you whining about noise in the blind, you should be wearing ear plugs anyway and it won't matter. Yes a 24 inch turkey barrel will be much louder but not so much a 26 vs a 28. good luck out there!

26" is easier to store, raise and swing in a blind. You don't lose much to a 28", and what slight amount you do lose can be made up with the right choke. These are the reasons I have a 26".
28" has a little better sight radius, and, as other said, isn't as loud in a blind (like that matters when hunting).

I think the longer barrels were designed to work with older powder back in the day. Take this as you want, but in college I worked at a store that sold guns and I had a gun rep tell me with the new ammo, your powder if burnt at the 26" mark. Nothing wrong with a longer barrel, but now days, the extra inches will not gain any distance.

Do y'all think longer barrels make a difference at all?
Seems like a longer barrel would have create more muzzle velocity. The load would be speeding up in the barrel for a longer amount of time.
ETA: Maybe I'm mistaken.

Choupique is right as I recall the extra barrel length doesn’t do anything for muzzle velocity w/ modern powders. As I mentioned earlier the extra barrel length help me w swing, maintain a lead and not stop the gun which helps ME shoot better (again it’s the Indian not the arrow). Now extended chokes do help w/ patterns by not compressing the wad/shot as quickly so you get fewer “flyers” and a more consistent pattern. Plus they are easier to change so if you want to switch you only need your fingers.

I like a 26" because I can swing it so fast. I also am about to buy a 30" and have a 28" pump. My sbeii is a 26".

Probably right. May have a small effect on patterning, depending on choke.

Why would I lie? It was an unethical luck/freak shot I took when I was younger. The only point I was trying to make is that the length of a barrel doesn't really make a difference from 30"-24".

prolly all in my head but i feel like i shoot more accurately wih my 28" BPS than the 26" A500G. Seems like it swings better. Maybe it's just the weight or balance.

Bingo. With modern powder it doesn't make a difference except personal preference
I prefer the 30 over for my site picture and follow through but that is just a preference of mind

Nope, powder is burnt before it gets to 24"... Think about this, turkey loads are some of the heavier/ hotter loads, but they are shot out of a 24" barrel. The reason older barrels were longer to shoot "longer" distances were b/c they were tapered/choked that way. 30" was a full, 28" mod etc.... With the replaceable choke systems and better powder it doesn't matter for shot shells. Now, line of sight is a different story... Most clay/skeet guns are longer 30" b/c it's a better plane of sight....
I sold guns back in the day, shot many many shotguns due to where I worked and worked with some really knowledgeable people. Buy the length that is most comfortable for you. I like 26" personally, have a kicks tube. It doesn't do anything for sight plane though.

2" extra of single barrel steel isn't adding much weight. Balance point of the receiver and forearm is much more important.
