BB, I have never purchased a firearm online. How does that work?
you have to have it shipped to an FFL license holder. most, if not all, websites have copies of hundreds of thousands of FFL license holders across the country.
take Palmetto State Armory for example. you buy any of their firearms, and during the checkout process, they will ask what FFL license holder you would like the firearm shipped to for you to conduct the background check and pickup said firearm.
it's pretty easy.
eta: i should also mention that smaller stores probably don't have many copies or keep copies at all. at that point, you would have to have the FFL person send a copy ot the online store you purchased from.

Thanks. That makes sense. I have a store near me that I purchased two handguns from at a local gun show. I picked them up from their store afterwards. I am sure they are licensed.
Since these stores are doing the paperwork and delivery, are they going to charge me for that?
ETA: Just checked their website and I see there could be a "transfer fee". I will call them today and see what that is.
Thanks for the info.

If you buy the gun from them typically no. If you are just using their FFL then yes. Most have a $25 - $50 fee.

Usually yes.
Unless you want something super weird or something with a super excellent clearance price, call the local shop before you order online. The local shop can usually order whatever you want and get it in a timely manner. Since you won't have to pay the shipping and the paperwork charge associated with ordering online, the price usually ends up extremely close.

Gunbroker is handy for this. You don’t even have to create an account. Go to “Buyers” in the menu and hit “Find FFL.” Put in your zipcode and it will list the ones (that have been used by someone before, but in my experience it’s basically every one of them) close to you and what they charge for the transfer. It’s handy to locate who has the best fee in your vicinity.

So I received my LTT 92 compact yesterday. Put the Langdon Trigger kit in it today. It’s amazing the difference in DA pull and the reset. NP3 looks cool too. Gun zone deals is good to go. Very pleased.

you can bet your arse they'll charge you.
they'll usually charge you $20-50 on average.... unless you know a guy that does it as a hobby.

Very nice. Add 2 more "trustworthy" online sites. Yours with gunzonedeals.com , no sales tax, decent lead time
My very seamless transaction with SportmansFulfullment.com no Alabama sales tax, I ordered the pistol on a Friday or Saturday evening and received it Wednesday (this was last week)

So ai have 4 92’s. Each one has a little differ t trigger setup. I have a 92FS that I sent to Wilson and had the, do a bunch of custom work including their action tune. I have a Wilson brig tac with the action tune and Langdon Trigge bar. A 92X RDO with the Beretta Xtreme S trigger with Langdon Trigger bar and this compact with Langdon Trigger and trigger bar. The 92X has the best trigger pull and reset. The Beretta exteme trigger with the Langdon bar is the best 92 Trigger setup IMO. All are really good.

Have we verified the legitimacy of gunplace yet?
Looking at their reviews on Reddit they seem to be hit and miss. They aren’t a stocking dealer and looks like shipping takes a while on some items. They have been slow to communicate as well. I would say buyer beware for these guys.

Thanks for the intel. I'll spend a few more dollars elsewhere.

the store i frequent charges $35.
if it's a gun that he has in stock, he'll charge you $50.
"why would you buy a Glock 19 online when i have the same exact model/gen in the store?"
"it was on sale for $50 off the price you're offering."
"congrats! after taxes, shipping, and transfer fee, you're in it for more than what you could have if you had bought directly from me."

Most of the time.
If you're saving $50 buying online than what your LGS has it for, your probably not coming out ahead

The ones that give you shite about it are generally priced up higher than eagle pussy and only get my business one time anyway.
I like buying local but there's a line between paying a little more and getting arse raped.
I have a store nearby that lists gen 5 double stack glocks, basic, not MOS or anything like that, for almost $700.

I bet the margins on firearms is pretty low. These local gun stores make their money on different stuff but the firearms get people in the door. Anyone have any information about that?
Posted on 9/17/25 at 4:32 pm to Bama and Beer
I know at the big stores the margins on guns are very low relative to everything else. They make it up on all the other shite people typically buy with them (ammo, holsters, scope rings, slings, etc).

My local shop can get pretty pricey. I bought a gun recently that was online for $394. Most local places have it for $550. That $156 savings, along with the sales tax savings on $156 more than covers my transfer fee.
