Thinking about pulling the trigger on a 4x4 Supercrew but can't decide between the two engines. I've always driven V8'a but have heard good things about the ecoboost. This will be my daily driver and don't really tow anything except a boat occasionally. Thoughts?

My dad's 3.5 or whatever ecoboost doesn't really get any better gas mileage than I'd guess a 5.0 gets. It's 13/14 in the city, and 17/18 on the highway. Towing drops it down significantly

The 3.5 Eco is the most fun to drive. The 5.0 will last the longest. I dont know why you would get a 2.7 in a truck.

Source: I have owned two 3.5s and a 6.2 F150.

We have 2.7 as a work truck. Its got some power, fun truck to drive.

I've pulled a couple reels of roll pipe, scissor lifts, etc. and never felt the least bit worried.

It averages right at 22 mpg(I believe) and thats for the life of the truck.

Ill check the gas mileage tomorrow to make sure.

Just got a 2017 xlt 4x4 with the 5.0 and couldn't be happier. It is a beast compared to my old chevy 5.3. My cousin has a 3.5EB and it is awesome to drive. I just prefer a v8.

How long do you usually keep a truck? If you trade every 3-5 years either will work. If you keep a truck 10 years or till the wheels fall of get the 5.0

My dad went from a 5.7 hemi to the 3.5 and he raves about it. His camp is about an an hour and forty five minutes from home and without towing he gets well into the 20's mpg sometimes 23-24. He also occassionally pulls a 20 foot double axle trailer with either a ranger or small 4x4 tractor (mixture of choppers/bushog/front end loader) and sometimes a four wheeler. He still gets around 13 mpg and says the truck pulls it night and day better than his hemi. First Ford he has ever owned so he isn't a fanboy.

What engine would a Ford Technician Pick Hint: It's the V8.

Dumb fricking video but if forced between the 5.0 and the 2.7 I'd get the V8. That being said, I have a 3.5 and I love it.

I'd get the turbo motor just to drive the sales of turbo gas engines up. It's a damn shame that it took this long for a turbocharged direct injected gas engine to find its way into a pickup truck.

Does anyone know if the 2.7 is more expensive than the 5.0? IIRC the 3.5 is a few thousand more than the 5.0.

Daily driver and an occasional tow.... I'd get the EcoBoost. I have the 2.7 and use it the same as you will. No complaints. I was surprised with the low end power.. the Salvation Army truck back into the ditch at my parent's house and my brother's 2.7 yanked it out when the 65hp tractor wouldn't.

Probably a lot easier to find a 2.7 on the lot these days than a 5.0.

Price is flexible.

I think in general, cheapest is the 2.7 then 5.0 then 3.5.

Of course depends on what other options you get.

The 2.7 is a hell of a good engine. It is, overall better than the 3.5 EB. Obviously not as powerful because of the displacement but a very robust design with the block made of the same compacted graphite iron block as the 6.7 diesel.

Having said that I drive a 5.0 V8 and love it. I have my eyes on a 18 with 10 speed and aluminum body 4x4!!!

I'm curious why you think it's dumb? I thought it was pretty telling. I always talk to mechanics about any product before I buy. Do you think it was staged?

I have yet to see one negative about the 2.7? I honestly think that may be a great combo for the average guy that doesn't pull a heavy boat or load regularly. Great gas mileage, but with the low end power for pulling something on occasion.

If it wasn't for the issues with the 3.5 EB I think the 2.7 would be a lot more popular.

The 2018 2.7 has the same torque as the 5.0 but at a lower RPM so theoretically it should pull better at lower speeds.

But I am definitely an "Old School" person and I just love that 5.0. Especially since I got rid of the electronic speed limiter. It was dangerous passing people on 2 lane Texas roads!!
