Man I’m telling you I’ve seen a pair right past hwy 36 in Hickory. It also was around the same time as Mike Collins sighting the ones he did. They used to reside in a swamp bottom. As a crow flies, PR WMA is like 2 miles from there. My father spotted some about 5 miles from there as well. I’m a firm believer that there is a few pair still in the area.

gonna have to check the difference next time i'm in the swamp/woods. Definitely see that big arse woodpecker in the swamp that i frequent. Don't remember if it has that white near the tail or that non-black beak, but i'll check next time.
I can say with confidence that one of them tastes terrible.

Cornell made a bunch of claims from Arkansas in 2005. I don't believe any of it.

Story goes that An old man in the area was telling some ornithologists that he had seen one and they didn’t believe him. They told him to bring him one if he saw another one. He went and shot a pair of them!

WOuld sound equipment not be better? Seems like they would likely have a unique pattern of pecking? Where you could put out some sound equipment to listen for them? Then if found, get out with the cameras?

LSU museum of natural history in Baton Rouge.

Y'all that know more than most of us post some videos with a little background info. I've seen the grainy one from Arkansas, but don't know who took the video, etc. I thought it was filmed somewhere near Fouke, AR, which is close to Texarkana.

Where do I pick up my money? Saw this one last week.
For reals though. I saw this Pileated on Lake Verret last week, and if this thing is smaller than an Ivory Billed, than that thing must be huge.

What is ya, ignorant?
The man clearly said while the military was training for the ivory billed woodpecker in pearl river, the Cornell team recorded gun shots in the early 2000's.
Duh.

Pretty good read, although probably slightly outdated now.
