re: $12,000 Reward for Information Regarding the Whereabouts of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker

Appears to be a pileated wood pecker. Have about a 30s video of it. I see them all the time in the woods I hunt. This one is right outside its nest by my hunting spot. After looking at some of the differences I will pay closer attention now since I see them in the woods all the time.

Hi, I'm a friend of Matt Courtman and I consult with him on this project. It would be really valuable if you could write about your sightings in detail. Not much is known about this bird's habits. Would you consider this? My email is motiheal@yahoo.com John

frick, it's in the oven

This is silly. There are more people looking and studying birds than there are plants. And I can guarantee you that numerous taxonomic botanists have been on practically every square yard of Louisiana. And bird seekers are much more numerous. If they were still around they’d been found years ago.

I think we need to up the reward to $500,000 to get people interested. The amount offered now won’t even by me a good bottle of wine.

Ok, I’m not a wine drinker but are you saying that there are no good bottles of wine for under $12000? You may need to think about switching to bourbon.

This is exactly what I’m saying. I don’t drink swill manufactured from a steel Barrell and improperly aged.

Kind of like black panthers and bigfoot. If they were around, with the amount of people and cameras in the woods, we would have proof by now. But we don't because they don't exist.
I'm not going to say it's impossible that the IBW is still around, but if it hasn't been found after all these years, it likely does not exist anymore.

I agree, and lets not forget there would need to be at least 2 of them for them to still be around.
But to also be fair, how many people would truly know what it was if they saw it? I wouldn't. Reports do not say they are more scared of people then other wood peckers, so yes there's no reason for them not to be found if there was one still alive.

Matt keep us updated.....it's an interesting subject if nothing else
Matt, on a bird related subject. I have 16 purple martins here so far. Some are starting to look in bad shape. I've been put crickets and mealworms in all gourds since Friday.
I'm not sure they'll make it another 24 hrs not being able to feed on flying insects.

Then they will claim the area as a sanctuary for the pecker and you won’t even be able to take a piss on it.

I've got no dog in this fight. But I feel comfortable in thinking Matt seemed like a genuine dude trying to do genuine good.
You came down way too harsh on they guy merely for trying to create a discussion and outreach on his passion/job/hobby.
Dude was consistently respectful to everyone in this thread. No need for you to shite on him like that.

You seem like a really good dude. You just shite on him pretty hard in my opinion. In this thread, you called him a grifter and liar. Then stupid. And just now, crazy.
All unnecessary, in my opinion.
I think many of us have the general understanding that you have... the Ivory Billed woodpecker is gone for good. But I'm not going to shite on the guy for following his passion in the hopes that he finds a bird that is extinct.
There's plenty of other crazier and dumber ideas posted on this site that gets no attention at all.

Again, this is a subject dear to me not just some passing thread. He uses terrible analogies and dismisses every fact against his belief. So, I have a very different perspective than you have.

Oh, and I hope I am wrong. I WANT there to be ivory billed woodpeckers.

I get that. I don't mean to rail on you, truly.
Just different perspectives.
