The LA Games in 28 will likely make money as well. Add that to the the fact that NBC and USOC will likely perfectly time events for giant American TV audiences like the NFL would, they will be a huge success.
The only real hindernece I can see is the actual local and state govm't of California and LA being the idiots they are. I really think Newsome's latest EO about clearing homeless is to give them 3+ yrs to clean their shite up (and to score political favor for when he runs in 2028, of course).
But if LA would actually address their crime and homeless problems, they could probably pull off. A pretty seamless games.

I would think that in terms of amenities, etc Toronto would be a really good choice
Also, not mentioned , Denver has always struck me as almost ideal. Pretty good weather. Lots of land to build venues. Big airport. Competent leadership and functional public transportation
However, the ideal location would be Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. It's almost Spring down there so weather is nice....also, if it could get its act together....Buenos Aires.
Also, Barcelona was a very good site in 1992....almost perfect

I think most major cities in the US could handle the Olympics. While we may bitch about infrastructure in certain cities, the situation is probably much better than in places like Rio or Athens.

They were awarded the 1976 Winter Olympics. But Colorado voted not to provide funding for them so they had to give it to another city,

Yes for one event in one stadium…
But we couldn’t put on a whole Summer Olympics anymore

Wildfires, I think, will be their biggest concern
They will get the city cleaned up. Can't show the world Hollywood's warts, but they can't fix their wildfire situation as quickly like they can by pushing out homeless.
I suspect the opening ceremonies will also be straight down the middle....sort of like Lady Gagas SB performance. There was a lot of angst about that leading up but she didn't push any agenda and just sang

Chicago???? No way ever… the athletes would be to busy dodging bullets to compete.

I remember following the Atlanta local news back during that time.
Giant airport and giant amount of pledged corporate $$$ were the two main reasons.
It was the first real "corporate Olympics," all the way to the point where the Olympic president who always says "this was the best Olympics ever" at the end of every Olympics didn't say "this was the best Olympics ever," which pissed off a lot of people associated with the Atlanta games.

It's crazy to think that some of the events were held in places like Columbus, GA and Birmingham
There were soccer matches played at a frigging high school stadium in Warner Robins

Yeah because there was a terrorist event and a lot of people were pissed off about it following the games. Its one of the reasons the USA was kept out of re hosting for a long time.

$$$$$$$$$
The Coca-Cola games (as Atlanta became known as) ushered in the next two decades of bribery, overspending and pure commercialism of the games

if the turf is good, that's all that matters. some of these soccer matches have what looks to be about 100 people in attendance.

quote:Hartsfield is no closer to downtown Atlanta than Chicago is to O'Hare. For flights to other parts of the country they could use Midway which is in the city itself.
Airport, downtown, and main sporting venues were all extremely close together for a city that size. Many large cities their airports are WAY away from downtown.

But Greece submitted a very poor bid, was undergoing a lot of political and economic instability and it was obvious they didn't have their sh*t together and the games would be a mess. So Atlanta (boomtown) was a dark horse that sort of won by default and the IOC worked with Athens, Greece to host a future games.
This writeup on how Atlanta won the bid is a great read.

Not a fan of Australia Olympics just because the time difference, but I they do seem to be a good place to host, but Buenos Aires seems like the absolute ideal spot for S America.
I didn't know BA had gotten that bad though.
