Hey guys, sorry to burst in but I really don't have time to read all of these pages.
How long before this well can be capped off and how bad do you think this is going to be?
Forgive my ignorance, but I have 0 knowledge with this subject and have never worked with any type of oil related field.

"There are geometric limitations for some of the
sealing shear rams. This includes blade width issues and for the Cameron rams, wall thickness issues. Generally, a tubular will flatten during shearing to a width equal to about 1.51 times its diameter (experimentally derived). If this is wider than the blade, shearing is jeopardized. Two of Cameron’s shear rams fold over the lower drill pipe fish to clear
the sealing area and house the lower fish between
the foldover shoulder and the bottom of the upper
blade, Figure 3.5. If the wall thickness is too great, the rams may not be able to come together completely and sealing ability is jeopardized, even if there was sufficient force available to shear the tubular."

Three months to drill the relief well. Hopefully the can get something done with the BOP. To answer the 2nd part of your question. Freakin' bad.

Super Shear Rams (SSRs)
The SS Rams were developed to shear drill collars and large diameter casing. These rams are also capable of shearing heavy wall drill pipe and tool joints. The SS rams are non-sealing rams. Shearing Action: Arms which are integral to the ram bodies extend out along the sides of the ram bore to keep the shear blades properly engaged and to prevent the width of the sheared fish from exceeding the vertical bore diameter. Upon completion of shearing, the lower fish is housed in a vertical pocket.

I remember hearing about an oil rig called Intoc that spilled ten times the amount of oil than Valdez in the Gulf of Mexico, yet it was pretty much contained.
Any hope that this could also be?

You mean Ixtoc-1, and not really. Most of it just stayed offshore which was pure luck, and south Texas still got slimed pretty good.

When is the stuff about them having some success with the BOP going to get reported officially? Why so super secret? I guess they want to verify to make sure more false hope is not spread, but I wouldthink they would have accomplished that by now?

Knowing what we know now, what are your predictions on how this thing plays out, i.e., when will they get the leak stopped, will they ever get the BOP to work, what will the actually shore effects be when it is all said and done (does it destroy shrimping and oyster industry on the Gulf)?

So I missed a couple of pages so I may have missed this but does someone suspect that they have had success with the BOP or is this just a hope? I thought they failed at closing it up.

A few people who claim to know people at MMS claim there was some more success with the BOP yesterday evening, but its odd that hasn't been reported yet.
