The vast majority of rigs with casing shears place them below the sealing shear rams. The belief is that
there is a higher probability of being able to pick up or remove the upper drill pipe fish than for the lower
drill pipe fish to be able to go down hole far enough to clear the sealing shear rams.

it is pointless to have "casing" shears. the i.d. of the riser is 19". the drill pipe is much thicker than the casing. if it can cut the drill pipe, it can easily cut throught the casing.

not true. they are used in case the tool joints are in shear rams when they try to close them. Casing shear rams are made to cut bigger diameter pipe including pipe joints.

i dont think so. a district is a lot easier to figure out who i am. the region is 10 floors of people.

it's just called a shear ram with a door booster. the booster is added for more power. and, trust me, the walls of casing are not as thick as the walls of drll pipe. now, the 36" casing, is very thick but never passes through the bop. the bop is only 19" inside diameter.

i am just telling you that a reuglar shear ram does not have enough clearance to cut a peice of casing. they are just larger diameter shear rams.

WRONG!!! the rams have no "diameter". they are blocks that are stored in a ram door. the blocks come together when pressure is engaged and will shear pipe. now, the variable rams have a diameter that fits the pipe, but these don't shear. they just close off the annulus.

you either dont know wtf you are talking about or you do not understand what i am saying. when you cut a pipe the pipe deforms to have a bigger diameter. the regular rams do not have enough cavity space to seal around a pipe bigger than the normal 4.5" drill pipe. it WIL NOT seal around casing.

Tigerup07 is correct in this matter. I think the problem here is wording and jargon. However , I think Trident does have the scoop on info.
