Haven't read anything about this method to stop it until now. And can I just say again how much I hate Mary Landry...

The title of the article is misleading. They are going to try and add a chemical to the oil at the source to help break up the oil. It was announced earlier at the 3PM press conference.

Fred what do you think of the estimates of 20,000 barrels a day? Is that a crock or is it possible?

The Louisiana coast's destruction will be excelerated by this oil spill. When you take into account that BP's annual (ANNUAL!) revenues are about 230 billion dollars, whatever they are fined for restoration will be nominal. In 50 years there will be no Plaquemines Parish. Thanks for the jobs though.

The chemical, the upside down funnel, the burning of the slick, and the rov's attempting to shut the BOP are all smoke in mirrors to show that they are trying something.

It takes BP forever to make decisions about anything. They almost lost Thunderhorse because they sat on their arse trying to figure out what to do.

CNN reporting that People in New Orleans are reporting chemical like smells.

This story was actually reported here first on the PT board.

BTW, I understand that we have to drill for oil. What pisses me off, and millions of other people as well, is that BP's negligence will cause so much more damage to the coast than they will ever repair. But hey, I'm sure BP's CEO is going to lose lots of sleep over that...

I was thinking the same thing. Hurricane season isn't for another month, so hopefully they can get this under control by then

You can continue to be pissed ta BP but this isn't just their fault.

The estimate of 20,000 barrels has now officially been doubled.

if it's hits shore a month is not enough. There is oil residue in Alaska 20 years after the Valdez. Oil dissipates very slowly.

it's BP, local and fed politicians, attorneys involved, etc...hell, it goes way beyond that.
