I don't think there is anything that is the way to go. Depends on currents and tides which switch all the time, weekly etc....

I'll be cruising to Destin on June 30th, it's too late to change. Is it possible this could just be an isolated incident?

yes. It has been hit and miss on the beaches for the last several weeks. You could go all week and not see any oil - depending on where you are. Or you could see oil one day and it's gone the next. Or you could see oil everyday. There's no way to tell where it's going to hit. Your odds are good, though, that you see more sun and fun than oil.

FWIW, someone was telling me last night that, if you lost a deposit or something like that because you cancelled, you can make a claim with BP to get it back. I don't know if that's true, but this is what we're dealing with. Supposed to go for the fourth and we've already put down half. Rivard Realty is working with us somewhat. We were supposed to pay the balance a couple of weeks ago and they let us wait til next week. However, they are not going to refund the deposit.

We're headed to Destin this weekend and will be there all next week. I'm interested in seeing if oil will be washing up and what the actual crowd size is like.

Hello Baytowne wharf and the condo pool. Too much fun to be had to not go. If oil gets you a day or two enjoy the reduced crowds everywhere.

If you have to cancel come on down to Greenbrier and we'll find a stock pond to hang out by.

Hello Homesick. Got Table Rock Lake up here, but stocked pond sounds awful nice. I do like easy pickins!

Hey Stutt... can you provide an update sometime early next week? I'll be heading there Wednesday and just want to see what I have to look forward to, if anything other than the condo pool.

Baytowne warf and the golf courses around there (Raven, Baytown) is one of my main draws for coming back to Destin year in and year out. I love that place.

I used to not enjoy Baytowne, but as my kids have gotten older, we just have a blast over there.

I like Raven, as long as no one wants to tip it out. The damn par threes from the back eat my lunch

Thanks, appreciate it. As someone was saying earlier, i'm hoping this is an "isolated incident".

The tar balls where cleaned up last night and the beach is pretty clean today. We left this morning, planned, not because of tar balls. On the way out, the guy on the radio said 6 miles of beach were effected, and they had 280 people cleaning them up last night. Also said there was potential for more to come ashore depending on the weather. Also mentioned there was a health advisory issued for the ocean.
