I'm still going in early August, I'll be damned if I let this affect my life adversely.

I'm in Destin now, staying across from Big Kahuna. I have yet to see any oil, in fact, the local news has predicted the oil going away from Destin in the next couple of days. It's beautiful out here, weathers been great.

There are tar balls washing up on beach. No many people are aware that they are tar balls as they are brown and don't look like oil yet. Clean up crews clean them up daily too. Not as many people on beach for July 4th time either.

Emerald Coast (AKA redneck riviera) is from Pensacola to Panama City.

I'll be at Silver Beach. Anyone else there or just returning from there?

Just got to condo. People on beach and playing in the Gulf. Things look great.

Someone told me the tides are now keeping the oil to the West... any truth to that?

I'm on the 5th floor of the condo and the water looks fine from here. We'll hit the beach in the morning.

Condo has a statement about checking and washing your feet just in case you're tracking in tar.

Gulf looks bluish-green from here and sand looks good too.

Stuttgart,

I just got back from Destin. There were some tar balls in the surf. Most prople did not even realize what they were. I spent about 45 mins collecting an ounce or two from in the water. It came in for a day and a half (Thurasday and Friday) then went out again. No discernable accumulation on the beach.

Good luck, Have fun!

Yeah, I imagine it'll be day-by-day, depending on currents.

Won't spoil my fun. Looking forward to an enjoyable week regardless of tar or rain.

Spend lots of money while you're there. I'm sure it will be appreciated.

No evidence of tar or oil all day. Beach was fine. Weather was the only thing that caused us a problem. Hoping the weather moves out tomorrow and everything is perfect.

skewbs - ya got the green light on Wed. Things are looking good in Desting right now.

I beg to differ with you Stutgart. I've been in Destin for 2 days. There were quite alot of tar "chips" in the water this afternoon, along with the 7 ft. waves. Saw 3 BP workers in front of Sandestin picking up tar and bagging it. The crap is not a total beach killer, but its nasty when it gets on you. The surf is ferocious now and for the rest of the week bringing in oil on a sporadic basis. Its no worse than Holly Beach, but damn, this is supposed to be the "emerald coast"
