I swear it's the wrong size!

I've been watching them try to get that socket on that bolt for like 20 minutes now. I can't imgaine how frustrated that ROV op must be.
He worked on it earlier today for over an hour, then finally gave up and went to the surface for another wrench/socket, so he's got at least 3 hours into this. I think this may be a metric issue, because the socket looks just a tiny bit too small.

They won't be able to collect much more from the top hat than they already are because 14K or 15k is the max the ship can handle.

So - how do we - meaning the LSU community determine if BP's collection estimates are correct?
How much oil can they get with the top hat?
Can they limit it for the next 70 days for the clean up to start?

It is the back side of the drill that will not let them get the proper angle to slip the socket on.

I agree, I can't see the top hat at all anymore

Have they already removed one of the bolts. Right above the one they are working on now? I think it is the profile of the torque gun if the socket is the correct size.

This may have been answered before, but here goes. Since they obviously have impact drivers that can be used by the ROVs, why can't they unbolt and remove the upper flange on the BOP, and set a valve with a matching flange on top of the BOP. They could use the same riser the top hat is on to manuver it in place. Would need to weld a couple of guide rods in two or more of the valve flange bolt holes to make alignment possible while fighting the flow.

For the love of God, will someone bring that guy the right size socket!

looks like they finally have the socket on the bolt. will the rov be able to control the amount of torque from the impact wrench to remove the bolt?

Let the wrench jam against the riser.
