Probably best to cancel unless you can still have a good time without the beach. I have a trip planned for July 22-25 and it isn't looking too good. We will probably end up having to cancel and go see some pine trees instead

I have a vacation planned in Destin in two weeks. I hope it doesn't get ruined.

I'm in Orange Beach right now & will be coming back again on the 21st. Just received the e-mail below from the realty company regarding upcoming vacations:
Dear Guest,
Brett/Robinson, as well as many people in our area, are watching and waiting to see where the oil spill travels. There are many questions and many "what ifs" regarding this event.
Today, Monday, May 3, 2010, the spill is located approximately 90 to 100 miles off our coast line (NOAA trajectory); the spill has moved 20 miles further away from our beaches in the last 48 hours. Today, the prevailing winds will be coming from the north with a weather front coming through the area; this will additionally assist in keeping the spill off shore and away from our beaches.
At this point, it is too early to tell where the coast may be impacted, however, projections on Sunday had Mobile, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach as not being in the immediate impact area.
At this time, there is no oil anywhere visible from our beaches, there is no smell from the spill and there has been no tar reported in the water.
In good faith to support your vacations plans, Brett/Robinson has put in place the following advise/procedures concerning this situation:
Because changes come about hourly and 30 days is a long way away, we are asking you to wait before canceling your vacation, especially those of you who are scheduled to arrive more than 30 days from today.
You may cancel your reservation at any time without incurring a cancellation penalty.
If you arrive for vacation and are not satisfied with your experience, we will refund you any unused portion of your rent if you choose to leave early.
Thank you for staying with us and enjoying our beautiful Beaches.
Sincerely
Brett/Robinson Vacations

I don't think it will ruin any beaches east of fort Morgan for a while if at all.

Just talked to Keiser Realty. They allow cancelations up to 1 week before your trip. You only lose $35. She said there have been a lot of cancelations. Kinda sucks because there won't be many ppl there even if the oil doesn't hit the beach.

That may be a selling point for some people. Less people in the pools and lazy rivers, shorter waits at restaurants, etc. I have a group of 12 going in two weeks, so we'll make the best of it.
In any other circumstance I would cancel, but I need a damn vacation.
