Fast zombies or slow zombies?

This is the most important question to ask. You’re fricked if the zombies can run; They don’t slow down or lose stamina, they just run at full speed for as long as they need to. Also, running could possibly equate to the ability to jump. If it’s an apocalypse situation with fast zombies, I’m eating a damn bullet because there is no hope and I’m not going to be a damn zombie.

Walking zombies? I’ll be fine for a long while.

What are the essential must haves?

I have first hand experience with this. Stock up on toilet paper.

Surround your house with treadmills. They’ll never defeat that defense.

If you could survive about a week, the zombie threat would largely be contained. The world would be over, but zombies aren't a realistic enemy and could be contained easily.

Clan up with other like minded folks in a place, area, small town, whatever that can be defended.
There's a book, "One Second After", that is about this scenario. An enemy sets off an EMP above America and everything comes to an instant halt. Great read.

Lots of ammo and freeze dried meals plus water filters.

Relocate to a camp and fortify.
Expect to easily hold out for first 6 months if a water source is nearby.
After that would have to see where we are at. Are there pocket civilizations? Did part of the government pull through? Or I alone like Will Smith in Legend?

I'd blow the levees and flood everything, hole up in a nice house on a mound, and live on fish and beer until the end came.
