Does it though? Does it really?

With water along continental shelf in the high 70s and shear? Yeah

Man it sucks the HH aircraft hasn't transmitten any datat in over an hour, hope they didn't have to abort.

It's moving fast enough where the water temps won't matter, it's all about how much shear is getting to it.
We'll see if the HWRF is right pretty quickly tonight because it ramps it up quickly.

Shear won’t be as big as an impact as previously thought, which has been said already. The storm will also be moving too fast for OHC to really matter. Also, as it’s been noted in previous storm threads, recent studies on OHC have shown that it’s much less of an inhibition factor than previously thought.
HWRF and HMON both were upgraded with that new data prior to the season. Not sure about ECMWF or GFS but they’ve been very good at it. They both showed Sally’s unexpected ramp up before landfall when everyone though upwelling would kill it IIRC.

You gonna get out of NOLA or what?
I may load the wife and boys up and head to the hunting camp in Central MS.

Yeah it’s annoying. It’s probably borderline hurricane right now if not one.
Hopefully everything is okay though

Yeah, same question here. Wife was asking if we should head to my folks in BR from Old Metairie. But, I guess it is moving so quickly it is just potential power outages as a concern in NOLA area?

Tomorrow morning I am. The weather nerd in me really wants to stay and watch the wind but gotta make the right call for the family. Hopefully just be gone a day.
Just can't really function without power.

Certainly looks to be strengthening as the sun sets.

Is there any chance this thing ticks east just before landfall?
