Are the hurricanes moving really fast this year? Seems to me the speeds are higher than normal.

At 8pm they only had 2,133 outages and service over 51,000. Not bad if you ask me. I’m 5 blocks north of Creole Tomateaux

Well that’s great news! You aren’t too far from me. Maybe we’ll have power back by at least Friday then

That ‘s definitely high

I would expect it to quickly draw down within the next few hours as winds shift

Just checking in from Nola Lakeview area. Was a pretty wild but surprisingly quick experience. First wave wasn’t as bad with sustained winds, but the gusts were pretty sketchy. Kept power the whole time. Our cars were under a tree in the driveway, so me and the wife got out in the middle of it to back out of our driveway some. Turned out to be an excellent decision because the neighbor’s fence would have fell on our cars. Had a block party with the neighbors during the eye and assessed damage. Couple trees damaged and a few roofs messed up. Nothing terrible. extremely lucky with our cars.

Part 2 was much worse with sustained winds. Hardly any rain, but constant strong winds that finally knocked the power out. Sitting in the dark at the moment. I’m just glad it was not a long lasting event. Would have been miserable.

How long will my fridge be fine without power before I need to drag out the generator? And how continuously do I need to run the generator to power the fridge?

It should be enough time, the danger will pass pretty quickly so they will be able to work tonight

Any levee issues reported?

I haven’t heard anything about the Lafourche area (and if something happened it seems like it would be on social media by now).

Grand Isle’s dune/burrito lever breached in 3 places.

New Orleans should be good, it was sort of sheltered from the worst surge due to storm track. Shell beach and St Bernard didn’t get much surge either per the NOAA gauge in Lake Borgne, but Delacroix’s little berm probably got overtopped.

Biloxi/Bay st Louis taking it on the chin. Gauge readings in Waveland are nearing 8’ of surge.

Depending on how low your settings are, I’d say you are good for at least 12 hrs if you keep it closed. I dropped the temps on my deep freezer during Laura and everything was fine after 12 hours plus

I put 2 bags of ice in my deep freeze. I'm not worried about it unless I wake up Friday with no power.
