I am asking why the seem to be double the windspeeds of most other major sources
NWS probably has access to the 10am update before everyone else. Other sources Like Windy, Pivotal Weather, etc use individual models for gusts. NWS is taking all that into consideration in their forecast.

Hope so but it's moving pretty fast and seems to be picking up speed. It's probably going to have a forward speed of around 25 mph by the time it hits land so it's going to be flying thankfully.

The big positive for this storm is the speed though. You're only looking at a few hours of bad adverse effects for most people. Depending on how close you are to the coast of course.
This is true, it also affects the total wind speed. It’s going to be quite a punch in the mouth but doesn’t look like it will just sit and hang out on us

Is there a measurement for how long a gust "lasts" to be called a gust?
For example, does it have to blow at 81 mph for 20 seconds to be a gust? Or is just any amount of time in which the wind temporarily increases and then reverts back down to a level?
