20+ years ago, Zeagler's Music sponsored groups of amateur musicians, setting then up to play a small set at the Chimes. Musicians were matched up to create a short lived band just for 4 times per year.

I was a D+/C- bass player who hasn't played in 20 years but really enjoyed a chance to play with others.

Is there anything like that out there now?

Stan the man Campbell.
Yes!

Took lessons from him for a hot minute. Listened to him play requests at the whistle stop Cafe too.

Dave Hinson runs the adult music club, which is designed to get older people into a band and teach them how to rehearse as a band. He may give music lessons, but i'm not sure. One of his bands, The unselfish lovers of the blues, played at phil Brady's Friday night. facebook page

Stan Campbell

I sat in on drums with Stan a handful of times when we were both playing at the same church. He’s the kind of guy every musician wants to play with because he’s so good he makes it easy for the rest of the band…

Took lessons from Stan way back when Werleins Music was still open on Fla Blvd. Still have some of my notebooks with Stan’s handwritten notes in them. Stan was the shite, God rest his soul.

Hell can we expand this to anywhere?

Anything like this in the Houston area. I’m nowhere near good enough to try and pair with actual musicians trying to start a band and earn a living. So this would be up my alley. More so than a musicians finding musicians Facebook or more likely Reddit search.
