Not guilty.

“They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun,” Tanner’s father Jeramy Cook described. “There was a phone that was around him and they were interviewing or talking to him, and he didn’t like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.”

Dad needs an arse whoopin’ as well with that dipshit hot take.
Also, you know the kid filmed this, that was the whole fricking point.

Look, I am probably in the minority here, but "Pranking" is made to look like someone else is a jackass, by your jackass behavior. You are humiliating someone, for your pleasure. Wedgies. TP'ing a house or worse, keying a car/slashing tires. Even something as trivial as pantsing a guy in front of the HS cheerleaders. While humorous to onlookers, these aren't funny to the people at the end of the schtick.

frick that. You shouldn't go around just screwing with random people while filming them just to get clicks on social media. Piece of shite deserved to get shot. Too bad he lived.

These social media challenges have got to be stopped.

He deserves to die over a prank? You should probably step away from the keyboard for a little while.

So you're saying because this a-hole has a history of making such videos, his next intended victim should take that into consideration if they decide to retaliate in some manner.

Who's going to know this fact when some idiot randomly walks up to you in public and acts like an a-hole to you trying to get a reaction. Then when the victim does react in a negative or possible violent manner they start shouting "It's only a prank, it's only a prank" like that should mean something.

I would say the nature of the prank is important here to determine whether the shooting was really justified. We just don't have that information. That in and of itself makes me question the prankster's story because if the video was at all helpful to him, it would already be out there.

When you start randomly fricking with people who don't know you and don't know your intentions, don't be surprised when someone doesn't react well. If you're doing all of this while filming them just so you can humiliate them when you put their video on the internet, then yeah, you deserve whatever the other person does in response. It's no longer some harmless prank at that point.

People nowadays are crazy, and you never know what a crazy person is capable of or is going to do. If hands were laid on this guy then he absolutely had every right to defend himself. He has no way of knowing if the guy has a knife or a gun, just that some random came up to him and assaulted him.
I saw earlier some guy said his friends wife had someone come up to her in Target and ask her to bang (referencing the energy drink). That is creepy as hell. If that video ever made it online she should file a restraining order against the guy and take him to civil court for emotional distress. Then organize the "I'm gonna get abducted from Target" Facebook mom mob and put pressure on that store to ban the guy and have him arrested for trespassing if he tries it again. No one should ever profit from causing distress to an innocent stranger and until some examples are made its only going to get worse.

This is a special kind of stupid right here.

I'm honestly surprised this sort of thing hasn't happened more often with this Youtube pranksters.

I stumbled across a video of a guy whose "prank" included walking up to people eating and grab their food to spit in it. I doubt the courts would justify shooting someone over that. But damnit if someone was to randomly come up to me and spit in my food, I would probably burst into an uncontrollable fit of rage.

Why would he? He's going to get even more publicity now. I'd be willing to bet more people have searched his name since this happened than the year prior. It's all for the clicks.
