Anybody who marries someone from the same small town is almost guaranteed to be related to them some way.

No. The opposite it true. For every generation of first cousin marriages, you can deduct 6 points from the IQ scale.

In Muslim countries it is OK to marry first cousins because Mohammed did it. So about 30% of all marriages in Pakistan are to first cousins. And look at how that is working out for them.

In the UK I read that Pakistanis represent 2% of the population but their babies represent like 20% of the birth defects.

It's gross.

I hear they're very popular in the Middle East. Pakistan more than half of the population are married to their first cousin.

I bet about 20% of the people on this board are direct descendants from 1st or 2nd cousins marrying.

If you go back far enough, I'm sure that's closer to 100%, but who cares? Many of us are descended from slaver owners, murderers, and rapists but that doesn't make it justified.

In the Middle East, marrying first cousins is part of their tribal culture.

In Louisiana, first cousin marriage is illegal.

Second cousins (and beyond) are good to go.

If you go through history, you will note that an uncomfortable number of marriages were between second cousins or closer. That's just how it was. Only in the last century or two has that trend started to go away.

What about your 1st cousin's ex-wife that he divorced 8 years ago....Whom she has kids with....One of which happens to be your godchild?

Asking for a friend of course.

Legal.

But the OT responses will range from:
1. You are obligated to smash and post pics, to
2. Bros before hoes.

I don't have a problem with bigamy, personally. This whole "i bet youll be able to marry an dog hurr durr" meme is so stupid. When animals and inanimate objects become consenting human adults, we can cross this bridge.

Back in the 1800's when the population was spread out and there may be no one else around for miles ... then I can see a reason for the need. In modern times, it's just damn lazy to fish for a spouse in the family pond.

So, statistically they are 99.999809265% unrelated. In statistical process control, 6-sigma is only 99.99966% error free. I would say that the 9th cousin relation is statistically insignificant.
