Is it where you thought it would be when you graduated High School?

Nope, thought I'd be working an 8 to 5 everyday like my dad. Instead, I decided to start my own company after college, before getting married and having kids. It worked better than planned, so I sold it. Now I'm a stay at home dad with my three little kids and love it. Can do investments/projects and start other businesses during the day while the kids are in school, or after they go to sleep. It's turned out to be much different, but a lot better, than I had ever imagined possible when I was in High School or College.

Love my life
Job isn't so career oriented - others are more disappointed about that fact than I am
My job allows me and affords me a great life with my wife

Your life right now

One thing I like to do when I'm in a really good mood is to remind myself that every tough decision I've ever made, every dilemma, has led me to this good moment right now. And I'm happy in it. So it makes me worry less about those "what might have been" situations that we all have.

Now that I’ve thought about it , it’s exactly how I hoped it would be, however not as easy.... I’m very grateful.

Some of the details may be different but I knew I was going to business school and that I would probably end up still in Alabama. The only other option would have been somewhere on the coast in the panhandle of Florida. Married 15 years now and with 3 kids. Live in a great community and have a good job/career.

Well past any goal I ever set for myself. Hardwork, a little luck and marrying the right woman has me where I never ever could have imagined for myself.

Just wish I didn’t get pigeon holed in SWLA. Would love to have moved somewhere else but by the time I realized that it’s a shithole here, then it was too late. Make too much money and too old to start a new career. Once kids are in college or gone, might think of trying to start a business in another state.

It’s really hard to say. Some positives, some negatives.

Joined the Marines right out of high school and it was easily the best decision I’ve ever made. Choosing to get out after four years may have been one of the worst I’ve made, career wise. If you’d have asked me when I got out of the USMC, I was going to college and then going CIA or some crazy shite. Having a family sure does change your priorities though.

Went to college out of state and had a great career, making loads of $$$$ by my mid/late 20s. So there I was, making a shitload of money with a degree and a top secret clearance. What did I do with it?

At 30, I chose to get nostalgic and move back to Louisiana and I am currently stuck. Hate it here. Wife hates it here. At a good, not great job that I’m pretty good at and moderately enjoy but I make shite money. Don’t want my kid to grow up and be addicted to meth like 75% of the people in rural Louisiana.

I had no idea I'd be where I am, doing what I do, earning what I earn and getting involved in technologies that very few people ever experience as it involves national defense, space exploration and aviation safety.

I went to school to become an architect, which can have its own rewards, but nothing beats getting to meet with and present to Admirals, four star generals, meetings at the Pentagon, on nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, destroyers, working with NASA, SpaceX and United Launch Alliance. I've even had business meetings at the Trump White House.

I have turned down many opportunities to work at other organizations, earning much more, but frankly, I really like what I do. So, yeah, my life right now is pretty good. I want five more years of it, and then maybe I'll retire.

Naw, but for the better.

Lucked into finding & marrying a good wife on the first try.

Worked hard at raising the little Füts.

Went to work in the late ‘80s at the firm I’ve now worked* my way up to running.

Life’s been good to me so far.

*worked my arse off for the first couple of decades at work

Every chance I get, my 14 year old and I have a discussion bout what it would be like to live somewhere else because Louisiana is terrible. At this point, her mind is made up and wants to move to Colorado. Now, when it’s time to make the jump, we will see what happens. I pray she leaves and doesn’t look back.
