I love all sorts of styles but I really don't care for two things:

1. High pitch roofs (which I know are necessary in certain regions).

2. Nonfunctional aesthetics like false patios (?) on an upper floor. Patio isn't the right word, I don't think.

I have not built my home yet, but I have always been drawn to the Farmhouse Style with wraparound porch. I really don't like the Country French Brick with a gigantic garage as the focal piece jutting out at you that is very prevalent around here. I very much enjoy the clean lines and symmetry involved with a Farmhouse style plan. Now, practically, I realize that the porch is an incredible waste of space, but just based off of pure aesthetic appeal to me, I am in love with these types of homes.

I've always liked small places so a simple shotgun house would be fine.

Wrap around porches are so awesome.

I want a spanish style home with an open plaza, huge, in the middle

ETA: not a plaza. A courtyard. That's what I meant.

my least favorite style is a colonial

my neighborhood is a mix of craftsman, bungalows and colonial and the colonials get a higher price per sq ft and I have no idea why

I don't really care for that either.

I like that bungalow style a lot.

I've been a big fan of some of the homes and institutional buildings Lake/Flato has come up with. Some of those people over there are pretty sharp. I come from a background in both landscape architecture and glass, and Lake/Flato seems to get that.

I dislike people in numbers and currently work in DC. My ideal home could be any style as long as this is the location:

I always said i wouldn't have french country or a fake balcony. Guess what I ended up with? Unfortunately more of the modern style homes are over $200 a foot or complete gut jobs. Our house is nice , serves it's purpose but I wouldn't build a French Country from scratch. I see what my friends are spending to build new right now in West St. T and it scares me lol.

As an architect

frick yeah.

I like the acadian style that's prevalent here, especially a more up-to-date take on it. Large porches, bricked outdoor kitchens/patios, functional shutters.

Also a big fan of the craftsman cottage/bungalow style prevalent in the early 20th century, although most need a good updating to fit 20th century desires.

I even like some mid-century modern stuff, but I think that's a style that has to be done just right, or it doesn't work.

I hate non-functional shutters. It's like people now don't realize that they once served a legit purpose.

The screened porch and upper balcony is killer on that Sixth St. House. The only downside is proximity to neighbors.

you talking about railings around an upper story window, or like a second story porch that never gets used?
i love upstairs porches but realize they rarely get used.
