doesn't a kid who loses a parent(s) get a monthly stipend from SS?

Do kids of parents killed by someone texting while driving also need child support?
What about killed by someone that fell asleep while driving?
Someone that ran a red light?
Someone speeding?
After this, what is the argument for any negligent act that results in the killing of parents to not result in paying child support?
Agree, it is ridiculous.
Is this in lieu of any other litigation?
Road ragers get a pass as well.

This is a sound bite law. Not sure it will work well in practice.

Call them gross and easily avoidable negligence.
Who determines this? Is going 10 over the speed limit not gross and easily avoidable? What about 20? 50?

The other three are at least potentially genuine accidents.
What difference does that make? The end result is still loss of a parent caused by negligence.
The other 3 already come with lesser penalties for the acts themselves, presumably because they are viewed as “at least potentially genuine accidents”

This is very typical of the feel-good / do-nothing bullshite state legislators come up with. I swear, they are some of the stupidest people on the planet, furiously solving non-problems with their tEn CoMmdmAmnTes iN sCHoolS and their DwI oRPhanS.

Good stuff. DUI needs stiffer punishment

DUI laws exist mostly as a money grab, not to protect people. If we truly cared about saving lives everyone texting and driving would face the same punishment as drinkers.
And the government would be shoving self driving cars down our throats. But if they did that there would be no more revenue from DWIs and speeding tickets and the insurance companies who bank roll political campaigns would all go broke.

These days there is no reason to get a DUI. No sympathy from me for idiots that do.

I will probly be downvoted into oblivion, but to answer your questions - yes to all.
every single example you laid out is a "choice" by the person. if you choose to break the law and kill someone, especially parents with small kids - then you should be held accountable for it - and right now, too much is allowed to slide so accountability doesn't exist.
my house is on a 4 was stop - the amount of cars that blow through the stop sign daily is ridiculous - but they do it because there is no real accountability. if they ran it and hit a car and killed folks, in this example parents of children - then frickem - they chose to break the law and have to pay the price in one form or another - and not just a ticket or probation. or whatever ridiculously low time to serve for manslaughter.

You’re being too emotional. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be punishment but you can’t put someone in jail for years and then make them pay child support on top. You have to pick one.
