It’s being reported he was a local resident. Stop with the border shite until we know more.

It’s also been reported that the truck came from the border. Why do you care if people speculate that he crossed the border with it?

I know they're saying the game will be played, but I would be surprised if it is

I’d be shocked if it isn’t played. It should be played.
Women shouldn’t be police officers, much less in charge the department of a major city.

I have a pair that I wear for work and they’re some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.

I think it's a strong possibility

So a cop just murdered a young girl in cold blood for no reason at all?

Seems like a bit of a stretch.

Probably a moot point, anyway, with driverless vehichles on the cusp of being more widespread in the next 10-15 years.

The insurance companies and the government will still find a way to frick us over even after accidents and deaths drop to nearly zero.

The trash will have to find a new place to congregate and get drunk under the university branded tent of a school in which they did not attend, I guess

The panhandle was better when it was trashier. Most things are better with a little bit of trashy.

Why are all you acting like the only people who get DUIs are broke and busted losers? Many of them are housewives, executives and business people who have no trouble getting another job after serving their time. Many have assets that will be forfeited to pay the child support.

The police actually prefer to give affluent people DWIs because they can afford to pay the fines. Which is really what its all about anyways.

People who drink and drive seem to think it's way more common than it is

It’s less common now due more the high social stigma of doing and the prevalence of rideshare apps but it still very common. Most people are over the legal limit after two drinks. Most people have about 2 drinks when they go out to dinner. And most of those people get in their cars and drive home. And if you’re over 35 and have never DWI then you’re in a very small minority. If congrats on being a little angel.
Just let Elon make all cars driverless and all of this goes away.

So you’ve never once in your life gotten behind the wheel of a car after having a couple drinks?

Why shouldn’t we impose the death penalty on someone who drinks and drives and kills another human?

Why wait till they kill someone. We should have squads of vigilantes waiting outside bars just popping everyone that tries to get in a car in my opinion.

So no criminal penalties whatsoever, you’re aware the civil system exists right?

I actually think my system of indentured servitude or slavery is harsher than getting 3 hots and a cot for drinking and driving. Nearly everyone on this board has drank and drove at some point in their lives. I’d conservatively estimate less than %5 of this board is completely innocent of ever committing this crime. Maybe some of the younger crown who’s had access to Uber or Lyft for most their adult life but anyone over 35 has most likely committed this crime.

If we’re gonna kill people or imprison them for life for DWI then we should do the same for cell phone use and driving. It’s just as dangerous as DWI. In fact, every time there is a car crash I think the police should automatically confiscate the driver’s phone to seen when it was last being used. I’m sure there are ways to differentiate between the phone being in hands free mode and being physically manipulated.

Good point. Society would be better off if drunk drivers who end up killing someone were simply put up against a wall and shot.

Actually the better option would be to not put them and jail and force them to pay financial restitution in some form or fashion to the agreived party. If they can’t afford to pay then indentured servitude will also be acceptable.
quote:

You're right. Better to do nothing at all.

Well, vehicular homicide is already a crime, so we have been “doing something” about it forever.
He’s not wrong. They don’t set up DWI check points to keep people safe. They do it for the money. This should be considered an endorsement for drinking and driving. Drinking and driving is a terrible and dangerous but not the reason they pull people over for it.

Or you could make cities more pedestrian—and biker-friendly so there are fewer cars, nuking the suburbs in the process.

Zero percent that happens.

100% chance that the majority of cars will be self driving within a generation. Maybe less. And we’ll all be much safer for it.

I think he’s trying to disparage bikers but he made it sound pretty awesome if you ask me.

You’re being too emotional. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be punishment but you can’t put someone in jail for years and then make them pay child support on top. You have to pick one.
