With 24 hours lead, I'd pick a sailboat. Not my boat because that would be to obvious. There are plenty of sailboats (mine included) that rarely leave the dock. I'd "borrow" one of those, chances are it would not be noticed for over a week. Provisioning for one weeks journey might take some planning but would be easily doable.

With 24-hours lead from NOLA, you could be well past the O&G rigs in the GOM. Since I can walk to my marina, I might even take my boat first then switch vessels at another marina, sinking mine.

I’ll go to a rural Louisiana or Mississippi town with no ID (obviously)... get arrested... I’ll be lost in the system for at least 30 days ... collect my billion shortly after the idiots release me

The hard part is how you use the 24 hours to avoid someone tracing your steps.

The NW US forests, or the Atchafalaya, or the everglades idea might work, however if someone can trace you or your vehicle to a point of entry, no matter how far you go into the wilderness an experience tracker or group of trackers withe right motivation (money) would find 99.999 percent of us within 24 hours.

I also like the parachute into the Amazon idea, but your odds of getting out alive are probably lower than your odds of lasting a week.

Yep, and tracking dogs...might not take even 24 hours if they know what woods you are in.

With a 24 hour head start you'd never find me. Easy billion.

If I know generally your point of entry why would the team I hire consisting of former special forces trackers with dogs, high end equipment, provisions and air support that could track 24/7 not be able to find you?

Provisions for one week includes:

- A case of bottled water

You all understand you can survive without food for a week, right? If you want to indulge, grab a pack of kind bars while you pick up your case of bottled water.

Everyone saying to hide in the woods would be found very quickly. There's enough helicopters with thermal cameras to cover the entire US in a couple of days. They would likely have a pretty good idea (within a couple hundred miles) of where you are, so they will cover that area in no time. You'll stick out like a sore thumb in the woods by yourself.

I still think that distractions are key and hiding in plain sight is your best bet. Tape your phone to an 18-wheeler, drive your car to an airport, buy some camping gear, etc., then jump on a train to the nearest large city you can find and try to blend in.

If you could get there without being tracked, finding a boarded up house in Detroit or another City with significant urban blight would be perfect.

Of course this would work in rural nowhere America, but its harder to get further away in 24 hours without being seen by someone.

So have we figured out if the person that finds you gets the prize?

If so, I'll just have the wife turn me in.

Profit.

That's a good question.

If I'm up against such a force it becomes a long week of hide and go seek.

How would you know my general point of entry?

This would be easy to do for me. I know of some land that used to be in my family. It has a bomb shelter hidden on it. It is a commercial property now and I visited it awhile back and the current owners have idea it is even there. Only 3 ppl alive know it is there. My Dad, my brother and me. It would be easy to pack some water, some sandwiches and disappear for a week.

And this would likely be the typical mistakes people would make. You have certain areas of the woods, perhaps large areas that you know well. But you no doubt have told friends about some of these places and they no doubt would be eager to have a billion dollars. I doubt seriously you have explored many places and found cool places to hide without telling some folks about it. About the only thing that you listed that would be valuable it's how to survive, but that would only make traveling light an advantage.
