I have almost $16k cash and will be using it all to buy a truck ASAP. I am only gonna buy a $16k truck, so I won't have a note. That being said, I am looking for a 4wd Chevy/GMC 2500HD with a 6.0, and nothing else.

This. I have one now and I love it. The best truck I've ever owned.

Don't see the point of owning a truck if I don't need to haul shite. I haven't hauled a damned thing in the entirety of my adult life. I'm currently renting a new Suburban while my car is being repaired (again) and have honestly concluded that people who drive large vehicles either (1) are in a business that requires them, (2) have large (like Mormon) families, or (3) feel really, really inadequate.
The Suburban is really nice inside, but it feels obscene, and I'm not a small guy.

Results from a new study being presented today by researchers at the University of Buffalo reveals the impact of your car-buying decision.
While the laws of physics dictate that in a crash between mismatched vehicles, the lighter one takes the brunt of the impact, this study shows just how unequal the contest is.
In car vs. SUV head-on crashes, the study found that the odds of death were 7.6 times higher for the car driver than the SUV driver. In crashes where the car had a better front crash-test rating than the SUV did, the car's driver fared a bit better but was still four and a half times more likely to die than the SUV driver.
To the OP, get a Tacoma.

Valid. I will add to my post.

Yea, so vehicles just keep getting bigger and bigger and using up more natural resources like we've been doing for the last 50 years. Great idea.

F-250 but I'm not putting any money down
Seriously though. 1.9 is > zero. If you have the cash, don't pay interest. ESPECIALLY with the interest rate you get from saving it right now.

Buy what brand truck you like.
If you are a Chevy guy you will nit pick a ford, dodge, yota , or Nissan.
I personally would try to find a low mileage used truck with features I like and brand I like. Saves on the depreciation.
I use to buy a new F 150 truck every year when I was a partner in a business, but if it's for personal use no way. You lose too much in depreciation. There are a lot of nice pre owned trucks if you look around in the brand and package you want.

Good luck finding one for less than 16k

But I can leave that money in a mutual fund that earned 10+% over the last 12 months

A car can actually swerve to miss the SUV though.

Yea man. Who cares about natural resources right!?
I actually drive a truck, BTW. I only drive 2-3 times a week though, and never more than 15 miles round trip. And it's not full size. Because I need a bed, not a fashion statement. People that drive full size or 3/4 ton trucks as daily commuters going 40 or more miles round trip are not only dumb asses who can't help but be parted from their money, but environmentally irresponsible ones at that.

Not really. Look up Epic EMR consultant salaries, then look at IT salaries. There's a pretty large gap.
