that was the first thing I thought, like trading a BMW when the warranty runs out.

Not really the same. Battery health can be checked on the dash. And any excessive degradation doesn't continue at the same rate if the behavior stops. There's no correlation between high degradation and unit failures either, they're separate issues with the failures being incredibly rare.

On the other hand, that beamer is going to bend you over every chance it gets.

I have very little direct experience with them but know some of the underlying tech well. Depending on the vintage it may have the LG Chem cells in it which are a known quantity and pretty reliable. The car's construction should be pretty good, certainly better than Tesla. But i would expect slightly lower long term performance compared to Tesla which is basically what everyone is benchmarked against

Thanks for the information. I’m in the middle of a relocation to Germany and my commute will be around 40 km. Looking around town there is a pretty robust charging network here so this VW ID.5 is something I’m definitely interested in. I found this nugget on their website.

The ID.5 is capable of charging (up to 135kW (DC)); equating to 62 miles (100km) in only 7 minutes.

You are asking a guy about evs that admittedly doesn’t drive one and even says his next vehicle was going to be an ice.

This is the same dude that won’t put solar on his property unless it’s free.

Just to add to the warnings about these cars, Hertz had/has a partnership with Lyft/Uber where they rent the cars to these drivers. The drivers wear the hell out of these vehicles. It's amazing that it's even feasible as I think the rental rate was around $1200 a month. Of course the rideshare drivers got preferential ride pick-ups, but they def. put some serious miles on these cars.

On the other end, you get some liberal millennial idiot whose dad bought him the Tesla and he doesn’t know shite about cars, mechanics, or anything else. He plowed all kinds of fat nasty college hippie girls while driving the car like an ahole and not taking care of it worth a damn because he knew he’d be getting a new car from mommy in 3 years.

So let’s not act like buying from a single owner is anywhere close to a slam dunk of a good idea

With that kind of mileage no way in hell

Prices almost like they know the battery on verge of death....

Rental car companies used to often dump fleet cars en masse and there would be good deals. We bought a 1 year old Toyota Sienna for $12-13k with 30k miles on it back in 2012.

They had a row of them to choose from with similar mileage. A few runs thru an auto detailer and it was good to go. We put close to 200k miles on it with no issues.

Lulz. He asked a legitimate question.

I know this is hard for you to comprehend so I’ll relate it to what you’re used to. I’m waiting for a good deal on new resi solar tech. It’s like how you get free McFlurrys from your job. When you can get the machine working that is.

That’s a solid option then.

I see you bought Dylan a pair of bolt-ons and still delusional about how "cute" he actually is.

I mean, he bought a Cybertruck.

His taste is suspect, at best.
